Really?!
As we looked down upon the snow-filled baseball field at NBT Bank Stadium for the Syracuse Mets annual open house on Saturday morning, my dear wife Karen, terrific daughter Elisabeth, George Three and I spotted one lonely soul yielding a shovel down toward home plate.

What a task!
He appeared to be thinking his plan over. A lot.

Fill ‘er up.
Later, we saw progress.
Still, I mused, we’re more likely that a melt will uncover this field for opening day than this fellow with his shovel and high hopes.
Yes Mark, nature will have to take care of that!

Home plate is sacred… it needs no snow on it!

I’ll go for that, Nance.

Like you he’s probably thinking the thaw will come quicker than the shoveling.
But he’s also thinking he won’t get paid unless he’s out there scooping.

Of course I’ve continued thinking it over, ladysighs, and come to one idea that maybe they want to especially protect the home plate area?
