We can’t escape the unhealthy haze

The sun battles the smoke from the north. I had to pull over the car on the way home from dropping my dear wife Karen at work Thursday morning, stopping at the neighborhood green triangle to capture the haze of the sun struggling to appear over the line of houses to the east. The barrier:…

Pretty plant pots all in a row

You know I like symmetry. Tomato plants donated by terrific daughter Elisabeth and fantastic fiance George Three successfully transplanted into the neat black pots secured at the nearby Lowe’s, my dear wife Karen and I decided a new backyard alignment with the strawberry pot and fig tree was in order. Long may you grow.

Still a knockout, our front red roses

Thank you for the bright red, roses. George Three took a look at the blooms of our front yard corner red rose bush and declared that they were nice. Their first summer of house ownership and careful tending of their gardens has sharpened his eye, for sure. And terrific daughter Elisabeth agreed, too, as my…

Smart spraying

I can hear that lovely sound. No more hand watering the big garden for George Three and Elisabeth. The sprinkler was a very smart addition for the big garden in this first summer in the new house.

Relax, dear dog

Thanks for bringing me. Who enjoyed the inside of our Cape Cod getaway rental cottage the most? Our cherished rescue mutt Ellie says it was worth six hours-plus in a car each way, sure thing.

One last look at those gardens

This place slays me. One last look at my photo roll for need-to-shares from the Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich, Mass., is warranted before I end this streak of shares from this year’s journey for the Cape Cod adventurers. It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited, three years running now. That,…

Here’s to my puzzle-makers

The combination of my dear wife Karen, terrific daughter Elisabeth and fabulous fiance George Three had their puzzle-making goggles focused keenly this Cape Cod getaway. Together and individually, three 1,000-piece jigsaws were assembled and then put back in their boxes (after I crept in to capture the photo, of course). Long may they continue to…

We mix well with Chatham

See this one out in Santa Barbara, Melinda? My dear wife Karen and I most certainly kept up the Chatham stroll tradition during this year’s Cape Cod vacation adventures. I had to go to my iPhone camera when I spotted a store that carried the name of our great friend Melinda, the big daily colleague…

A short walk on a long pier

River side. My dear wife Karen and I arrived to one of our favorite stops, Sundancers, about 15 minutes before its 3 p.m. opening time on a Wednesday during a Cape Cod adventure. We strolled on the pier built alongside the parking lot … and the river that backs the restaurant/bar. The sights were lovely.…

Sit a spell on the beach, yes, thank you

Always my beach woman with a wanderlust. Yes, my dear wife Karen and I surely found a sunny, warm day to bring the beach chairs and provided flag down to the private beach 1/10 of a mile from our vacation cottage in Dennis Port. Good look. It was an hour very well spent, enough to…
