Sue’s birds have their own ideas

Built for Sue’s sake. Before George Two and I left their yard, Sue had to show me a spring development right there. George Three and Two had teamed to build a sturdy and worthy bird house on their side yard. But … The neighborhood birds had other ideas for April nesting. Inviting, yes? That’s a…

One XL sycamore, coming up

It took two of us to measure it’s circumference. When George Two says he knows of an -est in our part of the world, believe it. We took off for Solvay to take a look at his guess for the biggest tree in the area. Well, the widest sycamore, anyway. Jack wasn’t around to climb…

Savoring the pink and white trees

Row of spring pretty. George Two and I figured the time was right for our second afternoon tool-around to capture some interesting Central New York sights to share. We start-and-stopped close to both our houses so I could catch white and pink trees with my iPhone. Franklin Square lines them up. We expected big things…

Hello to your new year, front dogwood

Our front yard dogwood has started its short flowering hello. The buds have given away to the first delicate white petals. A bit of exposure will allow a bit of deepening to the color. Then a big wind will send them all to the lawn. My dear wife Karen and I will appreciate all stages.

Our white tulips open out back

Pretty made all in a row. Our white tulips have made quite an elegant entrance on the left side of our backyard, much to the delight of my dear wife Karen and I. They took a week or so longer than their red-orange counterparts to the left. It’s the sun angles, we figure.

Kids will play

Busy enjoying spring. It only took a warm and sunny spring day and a loop around Wegmans Landing playground to remind me that the young ones and the folks who care from them get so much out of this great space during our nice months. I used to get an eye and earful of the…

Hitting the first big walking goal in April

With determination and warmer days, I’ve hit my walking goal for April. Several clustered afternoon visits to Onondaga Lake Park led to the sunny day when I first took a left from the Salt Museum parking lot to stride past the easternmost tip and then loop back around Wegmans Landing children’s playground back to the…

Cheers from the tulips

Classic for April. My dear wife Karen and I are greatly satisfied when April brings the emergence of her dear tulips. This year, the orange babies on the left side of the backyard were the first to open to our world. Beautiful and stately they are.

Waiting for our second spring

First burst at the kids’ house. A weekend visit to Elisabeth and George Three’s place beat the return of cooler temperatures and allowed me to catch their gardens in first spring glory. Backyard, ready. Their house is ringed by early bloomers. Ready for the meats. George’s smoker is ready for action, too. On Sunday, we…
