The last time I put the near-buds up here, people told us we did not have a lilac. We had a magnolia.
This came after a couple years of my dear wife Karen and I calling our front yard spring-flowering tree our lilac. All because that’s what folks on social media told us it was.
I’d love to know for sure.
My Google images search pushes me toward magnolia.
Go ahead, pitch in.
Dogwood?! We have a pink dogwood that Erik planted in our front yard a few years ago. If your tree turns out to be this variety then I must declare that the official Bialdez family tree is a dogwood! Clearly team dogwood here.

That looks like a dogwood to me! In Georgia, the blooms are typically pink or white. Magnolias have very large, waxy, dark green leaves and the flowers are very large and white.

At least, the magnolias we typically see in Georgia!

We’re great, thank you Mark! BTW, I found a version of the story I was told as a child about dogwoods: https://www.plantmegreen.com/blogs/news/easter-and-the-legend-of-the-dogwood-tree

Though a tree lover I am….I am ignorant of species. I will wait to be informed. 😉

It’s not a Lilac… perhaps a Dogwood? Or Magnolia?

Dogwood is a new one for us. We went to our favorite nursery armed with photos by my friend the owners were not there for me to show and ask, Nance.

i forgot to mention, there is a free app called inaturalist that you can download on your phone or ipad. just hold it up to the blossom, leaf, plant and it will try to identify it. also, other users will offer their expertise
