The peony season indeed went fast in front of the Little Bitty in the Syracuse city neighborhood of Syracuse.
When I got home from the board of trustees meeting at the Liverpool Public Library on Wednesday night, my dear wife Karen had even picked up all the fallen blossoms from our lawn.
Two weeks, not even. What a lovely and colorful life span it was. Eight days ago, the new peonies looked like this.
The good news, though, is that Karen pointed out that the hourglass garden a mere steps away is coming to full flourish.
That includes two, three, four roses bushes, included the yellow and red variety close enough for me to fit into that one frame above. The buds are emerging. You can tell their colors.
We love our rose season, which stretches far longer than our peony time. We’re hoping for a very good year for the roses.
What kind of year for the roses does it look like for you? What’s coming up for you in June? How was your May?
Our garden is the reverse of yours- the roses are blooming while the peony is still in bud – waiting for the sun. I have no idea why our garden is the opposite order to yours! Therefore I will blame the weather 🙂 Haven’t seen the sun for nearly a week.

It must be the sun’s fault, Rachel. I think it’s big enough to shoulder the blame. 😉

My peonies put on a short and beautiful show (still the last of them in a vase) and my roses are poppin out in high numbers, so I’m pleased 🙂

That’s quite pleasing for sure, Joey. Good job with the vase-catching. ❤

my yellow roses kicked the bucket a couple of years ago when we had that very deep hard freeze…odd it didn’t harm the red ones. I miss the yellow roses…in fact I still use one of them as my avatar.

thanks! that rose bush was especially gorgeous, always had big yellow blooms. I think it froze when we had that long cold winter a couple years ago.

Confusion is not good for the garden, I agree, Willow. 😦

Hi Mark, you are so lucky that peonies bloom in your neck of the woods. Our Daylilies are blooming right now, along with the Crepe Myrtles. The garden is looking really nice right now, but the heat (it was 107 on Tuesday) will certainly take it’s toll before long. The roses however seem to flourish in the heat and they are all in bloom as well.

You have tough roses to withstand 107, SD. Holy cow! That’s too hot for me. 😦

It is beautiful to see the gardens flourishing. It has stopped raining here and we have had sunshine for a week now – green stuff and flowers everywhere. I have no clue what they are called but they sure are pretty. 🙂

If it doesn’t stop raining here, all we will be growing are lily pads and mosquitoes.
