Team Pepper gets spicy right here, Nano Poblano

Fish of Gold

Updated after week two with link below taking you to post with comments from volunteers who want to be tagged for all or various Blog Hops.

https://markbialczak.com/2014/11/14/two-weeks-down-nano-poblano-time-to-hop-in-and-volunteer/

The first of November has its fist raised.

It comes a knockin’ on our doors right after all the trick or treaters have cleaned us out of all our candy on Friday.

Are you ready for the alphabet soup of blog writing come Saturday? I’m talking NaBloPoMo, popular here on WordPress and BlogHer, the month that we bloggers can choose to band together and get better by taking an oath to post at least once each day of November.

Last year, a group called that called itself the Peppers included my blog friend — and yours too, most likely, knowing Sheena of Not a Punk Rocker.

Peppers

The group was led by Rara, who came up with the cute logo above.

Sheena convinced me to take a turn hosting the Peppers this year. Fish of Gold kept the theme and came up with this year’s great version up top.

I staged the photo below, which has nothing to do with peppers and has nowhere in it a mention of 2014. But I dig the photo of my old faux Remington doodad on the screen of my newish iPad Air with bluetooth keyboard to signal the start of a big blogging month.

Faux type

I want you to join Team Pepper, to take the leap, to decide that yes, you can publish a post worthy of notice every day from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30. You have what it takes to write a story. To take a photo. To write a poem. To report what your children did, or your parents did, or your classmates or coworkers or friends did. To comment about a social issue. To share a big dream and recall a striking memory and confess an altering moment.

If you get stuck, of course we have Team Pepper prompts. Sheena has collected an assortment from volunteers from last year’s group, and the first batch is posted on an accompanying page. More will follow on additional prompt pages.

I’ll offer one personal prompt here, because, well, I’m the host.

Tell us about the last time a stranger really made you stop to converse in public. Set up the situation that led up to the encounter. Describe your feelings as you started to talk, chronicle the dialogue to the best of your recollection, and tell us how you felt leaving the situation, particularly if it unfolded the way you expected or took a turn that surprised you.

Prompts are strictly voluntary, of course. Use one, use some, use none.

Remember to tag all your related posts Nano Poblano and Team Pepper.

This post will be evergreen of sorts, the meeting place for updates and comments. As the host blogger, I’ll check in here daily during November to converse, stir, steer, listen.

Consider the comment section from here on out as your roll call. If you’re joining Team Pepper, tell us a few words about yourself and your blog, and give a link to a piece you’d like teammates to check out now.

This is your BLOG ROLL. Make sure you have placed your blog link in the comment section here so all Nano Poblano team members can follow your blog this month.

Sheena says it’s a good idea to register with BlogHer come Nov. 1. I will, and you should check it out, too. She says they provide plenty of prompts and serve as a nice meeting ground.

The idea this month, after all, is to find new blogs to read, meet the people behind them, and foster an environment in which all of us become better bloggers.

  4. Mark….okay….so…..do I put the Little Peppers logo on my blog somewhere. I absolutely KNOW you have posted ALL of this information. I am on the road AGAIN and trying to write in the car and post and copy and read and respond to blogs. 🙂 Good thing I’m NOT the one driving! On the way to see an older generation and then on the way to pick up the younger generation….. I am going to be a joiner if I can remember everything I’m supposed to do! 🙂

  7. Well I think I am going to try this nano and peppery thing though I have not got a clue what I am doing. I will try to post every day unless it makes me utterly insane trying to keep up with it lol.

So here is the link to my blog, I have posted today already, not sure whether to cheat and backdate include this or write another today but heck it is Saturday, time off?

  8. Wow! Once again – 50 years later, I get to the end of your comments. :O) This sounds fun and interesting! However, I’m committed to Photography 101 this month. How can I keep up with this as a looky loo?

  9. I would love to join Team Pepper! I’m Kim from Drunk on Life (http://drunkonlifeblog.com/). I survived NaBloPoMo last year only to fall off the blogging wagon and into a writing rut (sorry) the very next day. The best part of the whole experience was discovering so many lovely blogs and bloggers (including Rara) and I really look forward to writing and reading in November! One of my favorite posts I’ve written was about my seasonal battles with Home Depot (http://drunkonlifeblog.com/2012/06/06/dirt-redux/)

  10. Okay! Okay! I wanna be a pepper. How do I sign up? I pretty much post every day anyway, so bring it on, I say. How do I become official or whatever it is that I need to do? Oh wait. Do I just go to the BlogHer link and add my name? Hmm. Seems easy enough.

    • Yeah, Doobster. Sign up at BlogHer and keep putting Nano Poblanos and Team Pepper in your tags so we can easily be team friendly, all of us, in November. Cool, right? Take the new logo and use that on your posts, too through the month, too. I love this stuff.

  12. Congratulations to Fish of Gold for coming up with the terrific logo for 2014, which I placed with pride up top, and also at the top of the accompanying prompts page. It fits so nicely with Rara’s 2013 logo. I think when she sees it, she’ll love it. Great work, Goldy. I love it.

  13. Here’s a reminder, Team Pepper and prospective Nano Poblano squad November participants, BlogHer now has its signup forms posted on its site. Here’s the link so you can register your blog there as well as adding your link in the comment section here. We start Saturday. Cool jalapenos!

I have one prompt page up on my site, and more will be added during November. BlogHer also has a prompt page. Ideas are everywhere, people, to be embraced at your panicky times of need or “used for amusement purposes only,” as they say.

  19. very cool–I will do my darndest to keep up, Mark! Food For Fun respectfully declines the invite, but for sure I’ll follow you. And I had a lovely conversation with a stranger at a music store yesterday while waiting for my daughter to finish her (sax!) lesson. Said stranger started in about how amazing the weather was and by the end of the half-hour we figured out she went to high school with my mom, which is bizarre as their hometown is maybe 120 miles from where we were sitting. Ha. Life is fun 😀 Good luck and congrats on your hosting honor. If you want refreshments served, I can always whip up cocktails and snacks.

  22. I’m going to be NaBloPoMo-ing this year. I’m finding it is super hard to find other bloggers who are participating, even when I set up a google alert, nothing is coming through, and when I search, I’m mostly finding stuff for previous years.

The official site is not the one I remember from previous years, and they do NaBloPoMo monthly, which is a bit weird, how can every month be national blog posting month? 🙂 They still have nothing up for November, and there are only three days left before November in my neck of the woods.

I am hoping they will put a sign up thread soon, but in the meantime.. I’ve put a link-up on my blog in the hope of being able to find other bloggers as I have in previous years.

Each year, I add participating bloggers into my feed reader, and I also like to try and do a blog commenting challenge for NaBloPoMo, too. So you’ll see me back here in November and I’ll be following your posts, and also dropping by some of the commentors who have said they’re in here in your comment thread.

Some of my favourite bloggers have been found via NaBloPoMo in previous years, and I hope to find a few new favourites this year.

  23. So…….I’m pretty impressed with your ALWAYS supporting community Mark. I’m hesitant to make any extra commitments right now on time/computer/writing/etc…. But you know I’ll still be here! 🙂

    • I heard all about it last November and was too afraid to sign up for it, and then posted every darn day of the month anyway. So this year, here I am agreeing to be the host for Team Pepper. You’re spicy, I know you are, Rachel. I’ve been reading your posts long enough to realize that, my friend. 🙂

  24. I’m a pepper, you’re a pepper, come be a pepper too! LOL Reminds me of the old Dr Pepper commercials.

I’m in like a red hot chili pepper. I usually do NaNoWriMo, but not this year. I do need the soft kick in the pants to start producing more, so here I will be.

I will steal the cute problano picture, after all it’s because of rara that this thing started, so going to use her banner in honor of everyone’s good friend Rara.

Thanks Mark for hosting! Should be a great time next month!

      • If you (sirius) or anyone else want to put together a pepper logo/banner of sorts for the 2014 session, that works for me. I asked one person but I know they are swamped so I don’t want to pressure them. Or if anyone else is willing to photoshop something together, we can incorporate Mark’s photo too 🙂

  25. That would be a lot reading, especially if you don’t have readers, which I don’t. I think I will just eat shrimp chile rellenos, which are made of poblanos. You have more energy than I do, 56 11/12.

    • Oh, Kerbey. I want me some beef chile rellenos, por favor, medium red sauce. And you have way more energy than you admit to, my friend. You gotta kid coming up on teen soon enough. Chase, chase, chase, feed, feed, feed, cook, cook, cook, clean, clean, clean, homework done yet?

  27. I’m gonna be a pepper! I’m sure that comes with some sort of awesome pepper powers, right? 😉

I’m not sure I’ll use the prompts (since my blog is a swirling whirl of the nonsense already in my brain thing), but I may surprise myself and totally change my mind. Because I can be like that. 😀 I’ll definitely be posting every day and supporting the pepper blogs though!

    Thanks for hosting!

    • The prompt thing is there for the taking or not taking, nerdy. I may try one or I may not try one because, well, I got a lot swirling around upstairs, too. 🙂 But I may because it seems like stepping out on a cliff and diving off!

We are now co-peppers. Yay! See you here.

  28. Okily doke! Trust Rawra to come up with that adorabubble pepper, lol. ALso the Remington, good snap. Reminds me of that Ernest Hemingway quote about bleeding words at a typewriter. 🙂

Totally joining up. November, heeeeeeeere we come!! 😀

  29. Love the photo and the post, Mark. I take the pledge to publish daily. Paradoxically, I can’t promise, at this point, to take prompts or be part of the Peppers. Perhaps people will perceive me as a pill, a poop, or unpleasantly peppery. Perhaps it’s primarily because I can’t perceive or pronounce ” NaBloPoMo.” Problemo?

    • Hey, I’m barging in real quick, then I promise Mark can take over 🙂 The nickname Nano Poblano came from nobody knowing how to pronounce the “official” short-title.

You don’t have to use prompts to be a pepper. You don’t have to be a pepper to use the prompts. It’s all in the spirit of fun and such while getting through posting every day in November 🙂 So if you change your mind or want to drop in, you are welcome to it!

(OK, done hijacking your blog Mark 🙂 )
