Catching up with ‘The Voice,’ our tree and doggie spa day

Tessanne Chin had the ear of the prestigious panel just now on “Today.”

Earlier this week, the performer from Jamaica experienced an audience with Celine Dion.

On Tuesday night, Chin was announced as the winner of season five of “The Voice” on NBC because she was the top vote-getter after Monday’s finale. The viewing populace loved her.

I get the feeling that Chin will be heard plenty more, by the famous and regular folk.

She’s a killer singer. Chin proved it, taking coach Adam Levine’s guidance to survive a season of “The Voice” that seemed particularly stocked with interesting performers.

Sometimes the winners of these network singing competitions simply fall back to their regular lives. (Anybody hear from season one winner Javier Colon lately? He parted from Universal Records after winning a $100,000 contract and releasing his debut album. Oh. Wikipedia says he co-hosted a show this year “After the Voice,” discussing season five performances. It ran on something called Back9Network.)

Chin should be in for more. She engaged the NBC first-string this morning with that lovely Jamaican lilt when she told how she listened intently to whatever Dion told her. When she sings, it’s magic. She commands all eyes and ears. Of course, if Levine follows through on his promise and helps her discover great songs, and OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder is involved in the recording of her debut album as he says he’ll be, that’ll help Chin’s rising star.

It would not surprise me if second-place finisher Jacquie Lee and third-place finisher Will Champlin find continued success, too. Lee more than held her own all season, and as she performed with Paramore this week, I thought she, the teenager, was the most compelling front woman on the stage. Champlin can sound sensitive and powerful. Also, his father, Bill Champlin, could possibly help with his connections from decades as a member of legendary group Chicago.

And let us in Central New York not forget how much fun it was watching the early season success of Utica singer Sean Smith. The Army sergeant with the nickname “Big Sexy” was a worthy competitor.

Do you think any or all of the top three from ‘The Voice’ season five will continue their singing success?

Our Live Tree

Earlier this week, I told you about the Islanders and Jets ornaments I received as a birthday present from my dear daughter, Elisabeth, and how they earned a special place on our front porch Christmas tree.

I didn’t give you a look.

That’s Elisabeth and boyfriend George in the ball in the center.

Our tree, to be planted in spring, holds some special ornaments.

Ellie B’s spa day friends

Yesterday I shared the tale of Ellie B, aka Dogamous Pyle, getting a spa day at Dog Gone Inn Doggie Day Car, courtesy of me dear wife Karen.

When I picked Ellie B up after her day of the Full Treatment, I was greeted by a woof from behind the counter.

I found out it was owner Leah’s toy poodle, Yogi.

Do you like Yogi’s ‘do?

Leah's good guard dog, Yogi.

Leah texted us a picture of Ellie B enjoying an outside moment with her new puppy friend.

No wonder our rescue mutt has been sleepy since yesterday’s return home.

Ellie B is looking out for more adventure in which to lead her puppy friend.

  2. Never a big poodle fan, hate the poodle cut, and those colors? Poor little dog. If she only knew what had happened to her she would take a hunk out of someone’s leg.

Not much of a TV watcher either. It was all I could do for a while, but now am trying to do a few more things. Not confident enough to walk yet, B/P too low to try, but getting out of the apartment now in my chair. And typing with both hands. YAY! Gotta get the camera out and see if I can take pictures one handed now. No pretty Christmas tree to show, but lots of pretty decorated pine cones, making lots of mini “trees”.

  3. We had the Xfactor final last weekend – the over 35 singer won! Apparently the whole thing has put a strain on her marriage. Is fame really worth it?
I’m not sure what to make of the poodle.. do i like? I really don’t know. Love your tree though.
