Let’s just hang out
What are we going to do now, Da? Cherished rescue mutt Ellie B likes being retired, too. She’s got a couch, a chair, the floor, her crate, her dog bed, people’s beds, the backyard and me home to keep her company.

Sweet and savory. I hope to witness many more Syracuse Mets post-game victory handshake lines this baseball season, my first as a retired guy. I don’t know how many times I’ll snag seats this close to their dugout, though …
Protective gear for Syracuse chill. Game time temperature for Tuesday’s Syracuse Mets home opener was 53 degrees. We dressed in layers. For the players came less obvious choices. It’s interesting to note that some obviously feel the chill more than those of us who’ve lived here for, say, 40 years. Ronny Mauricio is our 22-year-old…
Catching, on. Francisco Alvarez carries many expectations for a 20 year old. Millions of New York Mets fans hope that he’ll smack hundreds of home runs wearing the blue and orange in the not-so-distant future. Put the pitch right here. By the way, they also want him to manage the game for their star collection…
Tailgate, ready. The rain fell fairly steady as my dear wife Karen and I prepared for terrific daughter Elisabeth and fantastic fiance George Three to check out of their half day of work and pull into our driveway to take us the NBT Bank Stadium for Tuesday’s Syracuse Mets home opener. But I noticed as…
The hollow at the bottom of the big tree drew me in. What came first, I wondered, the creature or the home? Was a critter still in there? Signs of activity. A closer inspection yielded sticks and dust but no animal brave enough or angry enough to come out to greet me … or yell…
Winding along. There’s a lot of variety in the miles covered by the paths along our Onondaga Lake. I was telling Elisabeth and George about how much I enjoyed the latest journey and how I hoped to get back to covering one end to the other. And back. I’ve gone three miles briskly as I’m…
Will it go round in circles … With spring warming my soul, I ventured to the easternmost point of my shore of Onondaga Lake on my most recent walk. Go ahead, enjoy it all. I did not mind imagining that this retired guy could accomplish a lot on foot during spring, summer and fall.
Nature and man. The wildlife and city skyline both seem to stand out under the recent herringbone sky at Onondaga Lake Park. I admired both.
What’s cooking in our part of the world. My recent walk at Onondaga Lake Park noted a new sign marking an important part of our area’s history put up outside the Salt Museum. Cheers to the salt potato. Long may we boil and butter!
