Among the many dilemmas that set in with the virus emergency of 2020 was the choice for my dear wife Karen and I about what to do with our annual week’s vacation in Cape Cod.
We’d scheduled a week for June in the same house in Dennisport we enjoyed so much last year way back in January.
Payments were made. As the month approached, we watched the guidelines and protocols for Massachusetts and followed the health news from the Cape, as well as possible openings.
We pulled the trigger a month of so out when the house owner allowed us to switch the week to September, no price changes involved.
Good call. We arrived the Saturday before Labor Day, the three of us stoked for eight days of getaway fun.
You betcha our cherished rescue mutt Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle is part of the Cape Cod adventure!
We’d left home around 6:45 a.m. After a rest stop each on the New York State Thruway and Massachusetts Turnpike to stretch everybody’s legs and take care of other pressing needs, we hit about 15-minutes of snarl time getting over the Bourne Bridge to the Cape. As we hit the Dennisport exit of the Mid-Cape Expressway, Karen received a text proclaiming the house was cleaned and ready for our check-in.
Driveway arrival time was 1:45 p.m. The trip went by fast. We were satisfied that the state-run rest stops appeared clean, and everybody was wearing their masks and practicing social distancing.
And once safely tucked into our destination, the house and grounds looked and felt right all around.
You are in for loads of daily Cape Cod posts now that we are back home in Central New York …
i soooo glad that you decided to go, i’m sure it was a wonderful getaway for the three of you. looking forward to the pics )
