One last celebration for my birthday week

The text from my terrific daughter Elisabeth asked where I’d like to meet for a birthday celebration meal.

Yes, our busy schedules would allow her and George Three to break bread with my dear wife Karen and I before my Birthday Week was said and done.

Happy they are to meet us at our go-to of late.

Happy they are to meet us at our go-to of late.

Where to, she asked?

I went for the mid-day comfort of a Cracker Barrel breakfast.

And yes, my Saturday noon filling of French toast, eggs over-easy and country ham was exactly what I needed to tie a nice bow over the new age.

Eat we do.

Eat we do.

My gift of restaurant cards was just right. One for that day, one for Karen and I to enjoy later at our hideaway Ruby Tuesday’s.

The calendar page on my Beddian Birthday is officially turned.

Did you last eat French toast or pancakes, and why? Where is your slip-away eating place these days, and why? When does your next birthday arrive, and what would you like as a gift?

  1. Happy Birthday week to you, Happy Birthday week to you, Happy Birthday week dear Mark, Happy Birthday week to you!!!!! (I sang you a little song)
I really like Westwood’s which is a local restaurant, but they make great fried chicken and chocolate mousse. Yumm!!!!!
I made chocolate chip pancakes (from scratch) for the boys and their friends about 11:30 at night several days ago. Didn’t actually get to eat any of them though, because they were gone in a matter of about 2 minutes.

  2. Mmmm, we LOVE Cracker Barrel. Can’t eat there too often now though because the kids think they have to get a toy from the store every time. Grandma started that. We also love Applebees. I love the Chicken Fajita Rollup and sweet potato fries. Eat all the fries, half the rollup and save the other half for breakfast. 🙂 Happy Birthday Week! Your daughters shirt is really cute.

    • Rachel, your boys should be satisfied with that great meal, right? Dang that spoiling grandma. My dear wife Karen and I love Applebee’s, too. Great minds we all have. Hey, Elisabeth has good taste as well. 🙂

  3. Mmmm. French toast. Sounds good. I had some a couple weeks back at Kerbey Lane Cafe (yes, just like my name). They have a “Paris Texas Platter” and it came with pumpkin French toast with pumpkin butter and migas (scrambled eggs w/ tortilla bits). The best of sweet and savory! Well, Mark, your Beddian may be over, but I never would have known what that was without you.

  6. Happy Birthday, Mark!! I hope you had a great week and will have a fantastic year ahead.
Cracker Barrel makes some good breakfasts and pretty decent pancakes. Our breakfast escape is a little independent breakfast/lunch place in town that makes terrific blueberry pancakes. Sometimes I’ll even switch to chocolate chip. Either way, they’re very good. Of course we can’t forget the bacon, can we..:)

    • Bacon is No. 1, yes, George. Once in a while I have to go for the country ham for that unique flavor, though, bringing the south to upstate New York. And I like your independent spirit. 🙂

  8. I’m glad you had a nice birthday. I’m making French toast for hubby’s birthday this week.

I don’t eat out much, but there is a breakfast place in town I like that we sometimes hit when I’m out. My birthday is in February and we are going to a German Restaurant. Wisconsin has many of them and I requested it.

  10. Birthday week!? Well Happy Birthday. I made some blueberry pancakes last week. My favorite. If you will allow me to go off topic. I saw The Force Awakens yesterday with my Granddaughters and son. I thought it was excellent, and brought back the thrill and excitement of the original. I must say that I probably would never have entertained any thought of seeing it were it not for your review. So thanks my magnificent maven of the movies. My first theater experience since Jurassic Park. Once again. Happy Birthday.

    • Thanks so much, Benson. And I am sooooo glad that I was able to steer you to the theater for the great Force experience with your granddaughters and son! And happy holidays, my friend. Blueberry pancakes and potato pancakes to all out there in Indiana. Cook the first and visit a Bistro for the second. With applesauce and sour cream.

  11. Happy Birthday Week my good friend.
Mark, I make the best French toast in all of Christendom. (No Brag–J’est fact)
My next B’day is some months away (Sep), but get your shopping done early and beat the crowds: I would like a Mickie Mouse Pencil Sharpener and some turtle soup. Thanks in advance.

Oh, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
    Cheers,
    Lance
