I’m swimming with the pretty Fish of Gold card

The artistic hand of Fishy has brightened my holidays.

All of them.

‘Tanks, Fishy!

Fishy gave me a smile with her snow person up front visiting from the left coast, and many smiles with her inside message. I am now wished thoroughly well, and through that special day set aside for one-horned wonders on Jan. 11!

Thanks, Fishy. Happy all of these holidays to you and yours, too. I’m surely glad to have met you through Nano Poblano this November, when you delivered to us all our fantastic team logos, started and finished our wild and wooly Blog Hop story, and added so much with every post and comment. You’ve got a Syracuse address in your contact click who’s sticking around, my friend.

Have you ever drawn or designed cards for friends or family? If so, what was the occasion, and how did you go about it? What did the finished product come out like? What was the reaction when they were received?

  1. Wow, she is so talented – and funny too! How very sweet of her to send you that card.

I usually do a photo card which does not take a lot of creativity, but it works for me. Susie the Wild Child puts us all to shame every year with her creative and beautifully drawn cards. 🙂

  2. What a fun card. Another Christmas smile from you 🙂 No homemade cards from me–I scribble my name on recycled card fronts. Easy peasy, but I still get credit for originality. No two will ever be the same.

  3. This was such a nice and pleasant Christmas card to receive, homemade ones are the best, Mark! I make a lot of mine for the little ones, over the years I have designed other people’s Christmas cards with their home and a wreath on their door, pen and ink with watercolor. I think children’s homemade Mother’s and Father’s day cards, along with special spontaneous Nana cards really melt my heart, Mark! I bet you have a few saved over the years from your daughter… smiles!

  4. I don’t think I have made a card past elementary school.

I also received a Fishie original: the infamous red-nosed reindeer. Bonus was the reminder of the upcoming Unicorn Appreciation Day next month!

  5. I’ve designed and made cards for all occasions thru the years Mark, including the official card for the building I’m living in. I use my photos, or quilled flowers, or any other medium I’m comfortable with. Using photos is the easiest, because I can do them on the computer, but I get the most satisfaction out of the quilling, and other paper crafts, plus doing the calligraphy sentiments that come from the heart inside each one. Love paper folding–not exactly origami, but tea bag type, to make each card a one of a kind that is never duplicated.

Gina and family were here today and wished you a Merry Christmas. I’m still in the cooking full steam ahead mode, and life is good.

  6. What a sweet gift from a fellow blogger. 🙂 I haven’t designed a card since childhood, but it fun from what I can remember. As as adult now though, I can say that handmade cards are by far the best to receive.

  7. That card is super frosty sweet. We’ve made cards. Some like them. Some ignore them. Some adore them. 🙂 But I have fun doing them. And I like putting the time in to it while I’m doing it. 🙂 Makes me think of the people they’re going to. And makes it more enjoyable.

  8. What a lovely card! Fish of Gold is so talented. I always wished I could draw or paint or something. I don’t attempt cards, Mark, but I think it would be fun to try. Happy Holidays to you!

  10. There’s something wonderfully weird about this artist. Almost Tim Burton-ish but in it’s own way. You’re questions actually originally conjured only the handmade cards I did as a very young girl, which my daughter (7) does now, but then I remembered, I actually did a Valentine’s Day one for my husband a for year’s ago.

  11. Ooh, I love that! And I love Fishie, but I didn’t know she drew cards. It’s amazing what you find out about people!
By the way, how did NaNo um.. whatever? Poblano? go for you, Mark? Did you finish your novel?

  12. I got mine yesterday… with a cute red nosed reindeer on the front!

I drew up birthday cards for some of my online friends a few years ago and printed them out the same way Goldfish did. True story… my possum Buster got his start on one of those cards I drew!

    • Fantastic start for Buster, Bill. I am so envious of you artists. I can’t draw a straight line or a circle, but fortunately I can do a good job drawing a conclusion: I stay away from art. Now I have your Regis and Fishy’s Snowman. I am lucky in ’14.

  13. I love fishy. I used to make cards when my kids were little and use various body parts to doodle around and create scenes. Can’t imagine what people thought about those fingers and toes having been on their cards 😉
