It’s my Beddian Birthday, time for wine and poses

I’m 57 years old today, this guy born in 1957.

It’s my Beddian Birthday.

My dear wife Karen and Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle started the day off by presenting me with a big pile of wonderful gifts.

Thank you my dear wife Karen.

Thank you my dear wife Karen.

With our new-found enthusiasm for Cabernet Savignon since our spring bus tour excursion to the Finger Lakes wine trail, Karen wisely chose a gorgeous four-piece wine glass set and three bottles of vino for us to savor. One is from Australia, one is from Argentina, and one is from California. Score.

I opened many others, too, socks to warm my tootsies and shaving lotion to soothe my neck and gift cards to better my golf game and coffee drinking and even more goodies.

Later we’re driving to meet the kids for dinner at the best buffet spread ever at Turning Stone Resort and Casino.

On Facebook, friends from all over the world have pitched in with song videos and great messages. Thank you all.

And didn’t we know that Rachel Carrera would put The Head back in play on his 57th birthday?

What do you want for your birthday?

  1. Happy birthday, brother! Look at you, all 57 and whatnot. So close to Christmas. Did you feel gypped as a kid? My daughter’s is the 20th. She’s not wild about the idea. I blame her mother’s gestation period. She could have held out until spring. Tonight I’ll toast your birthday with a glass of dinner wine.

    • I never felt gypped as a kid. My family always made sure wrap gifts, give me a cake, sing … the whole nine yards. My head is still sufficiently big as a result. I hope your daughter realizes that she’s special no matter the day she was born. I’m sure you and your wife treat her A-OK. Thanks for your wishes, brother!

  2. Oh man! That’s what I get for not checking in. I missed your bday!! The horror!!!!!!! I hope you had a most wonderful day. Have you finished all the bottles yet? LOL. Nice to get new wine glasses too. 🙂

Here is a special song we sing to family members on their birthdays:

“Feliz, feliz en tu dia. Amiguito que Dios te bendiga. Que reine la paz en tu día, y que cumplas muchos mas.” Feliz Cumpleanos, Mr. B! 🙂

    • I will gladly accept a day late for being serenaded with your famiy song, Mrs. B. Muchas gracias, mi amiga. I am honored to nearly speechless. ❤

And, back to real life, hey, wiseguy, no we did not drink all the wine yesterday!

  4. Happy Beddian Birthday Mark. I have a b’day coming up in 12 days, but very few people have ever given me gifts because of the lousy timing. So this year I expect the same thing I got last year, and every year before — nothing. Not sure I ever had a Beddian birthday, or if I did, had no idea what it was. But since you never miss what you’ve never had—-

Have a happy rest of the day.

  5. And I am not surprised that you are awash in Happy Birthday wishes. You are such a nice person, Mark, that people feel they know you and have a friend in you, I’m sure. So thanks for the gift of your kind presence on the blogosphere and many, many wishes for a Happy Birthday. I’m 57 for another week or two…..

  6. Mark … Your lovely wife, Karen, made an excellent choice. Lucky you … hitting the Finger Lakes wine trail. We only were able to get to one when we returned from the Watkins Glen State Park to our motel, Showboat. It sounds like you have an exciting day planned. Dave and I wish you the very best birthday. 😉

  7. Happy B – Birthday Mark! When I glanced at your post title I first saw “…for wine and posies”. Ha! I was gonna say – you’re far too young to be pushing up posies yet ! 😀

  8. Happy birthday, Mark. I remember being 57 once, but it wasn’t a Beddian Birthday. That happened to me 11 years earlier and I didn’t celebrate my Beddian birthday because I didn’t know what a beddian birthday was. I’d never heard of it. But now that I know what it is, I want to turn back time and celebrate it. Where is Cher when you need her, dammit?

    • She was on your post the other day, Doobster. I’m waiting for you to reference her song with the computer autotune hitch in her voice. “Believe,” I believe, so believe it when I say I believe you write like you’re 47 and still have your Beddian Birthday ahead of you, my friend. Thanks for the wishes, by the way. 🙂

You deserve every wonderful comment you get and as many well wishing hugs as this world can give you. I’m thrilled to be a part of your celebrations. Enjoy the rest of your big day, my friend.
