A gathering for Scooch

Cheer leaders.

One of our recent trips to a Syracuse Mets game led to a big birthday party for team mascot Scooch.

Team officials invited those who put on the suit to entertain teams in our city and beyond. The turnout was quite remarkable.

Scooch (the one with the orange head, small blue cap and bigger bottom half) is a member of the Mascot Hall of Fame for its 20-years plus of cavorting at NBT Bank Stadium.

The gaggle of mascots welcomed fans inside the main exit, and Mr. Met and Mrs. Met made the trip up from the Big Apple, happy to pose with excited Metsies — including happy daughter Elisabeth.

The two horses that represent the team down Route 81 and the Mets’ affiliate ladder, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, drew lots of cheers and attention.

Otto the Orange, longtime mascot for the Syracuse University squads showed its appeal, as did Crunch Man, famous mascot of our AHL hockey squad the Syracuse Crunch. The red bird for International League rival Rochester Red Wings drove down the New York State Thruway. Other local college and pro squads also were represented.

Say Cheese Whiz.

Antics and a group photo right in front of our great seats during and after pre-game ceremonies gave me great phone camera opportunities.
