A thoughtful annual trip to Cape Cod

Back to the sleepy cottage a block from the beach.

We’re back home in Central New York from our annual Cape Cod getaway.

My dear wife Karen, our cherished rescue mutt and I fit in our usual stops amid some rest and relaxation, as is our tradition.

During the stay, I decided to take a break from all things blog- and social media-related. Thanks for sticking with your comments on the posts that I’d scheduled to come up during that stretch.

I used some of the time away to ponder whether it’s time to say bye to this blog for good. I started this pursuit early in 2013. Soon enough, I decided to share something every day. Mostly, I’ve enjoyed the thinking and the doing, the discovery of what I see in my world and what many others see in theirs.

Sometimes I surprise myself and sometimes you all surprise me.

Sometimes, though, as I’m doing this and that as a retired guy, the blogging has become less enjoyable.

So.

I still raised my phone for photo in Cape Cod when inspiration hit, smiling at what life sent in front of me and snapping the white button.

Upon return home, I noticed less photos in the roll than past years although we did as much.

I’ll post about the Cape Cod vacation and get back to reading your comments and blogs.

It’s not time to completely go away.

Every day posts may be coming to an end, though.

  1. Mark, as you know I come and go with blogging (and WordPress, which seems to be changing my dashboard daily at this point!). Sometimes I am quite motivated to write, but often what I consider blogging is just reading and commenting about what others are doing. Also, as a recent retiree I have found time away from the computer MOST welcome. Considering for many, many years I was “chained” to a desk and keyboard…doing more computer (or phone) stuff just isn’t what I am seeking. Then again, sometimes I also think for the right job I might get back into something part-time. At least I’m getting paid for that! In any case, it is very nice to see you back from your vacation and I trust you had a fabulously relaxing time.🙂

  2. For over 10 years you have done a daily blog, with diverse topics and great photos. You must know I love the stuff about the Mets, the Syracuse musicians, festivals, restaurants, weather and the occasional comment on current events. I now know about your wonderful family, and family travels, including seasonal trips to apple orchards, the Cape. I would imagine a daily blog is quite a challenge and yet I do look forward to whatever you post next, but if you end up only posting every other day or a couple times a week I will still be there!

  3. I very much understand and appreciate this. I’m glad you had your Cape Cod vacation. I was wondering if you guys were going to do it this year. I really understand what you’re talking about with regard to blogging and I have made the agreement with myself that when it becomes not fun anymore or I’m not enjoying it. I will stop for now. I still enjoy writing and conversing with others and WordPress. Right when you want to and don’t feel obligated if the mood hits you pop up with some thing if the mood does not sit back and enjoy your time.

    • I feel a bit reinvigorated right this moment, Beth, and the thing I missed most was the daily conversations with the several people I consider friends that transcend WP. You know who and what I mean. Glad to be back in that way.

  4. I always wonder how you post every day. I have a hard time getting my weekly post out. Not because I don’t enjoy it but because of how busy I am that it’s hard to sit down to do so.
I sure hope you don’t stop all together as you are a joy to follow. I always enjoy your wit and love seeing what you are going to share next.
Here’s to new ways of sharing! Hugs!
