Old favorite for new game night fun at our house

Friendly competition.

My dear wife Karen was happy to honor my birthday gift request for an old favorite game.

I grew up rolling the dice and filling out boxes for Yahtzee with my parents and then with my sisters.

Karen and I have happily fit the dice rolls into our leisure time since December, a couple of times a week.

I’ve even taught her the wrinkle that made our family Yahtzee forays a bit different that most.

We play a full-sheet at a time.

Simply put, one Yahtzee session covers all six games on the Yahtzee score sheet. You don’t have to finish the games one-by-one. You can, for example, fill in all six full houses first if that’s the way the dice turn out for you.

It makes for some interesting strategy.

It makes for interesting strategy when rolling well and not so well. Where do I put those four sixes, up top as 24 or 29 as four-of-a-kid with the accompanying 5?

On the flip side, it’s what do I scratch near end game with the dice don’t come up, Yahtzee because it’s hardest to get, or another box to leave an opening for that cherished 50 points?

Yahtzee, yeah. We’re digging it at our kitchen table.
