Nice try.
When my dear wife Karen and I visited the JMA Wireless Dome for the Syracuse University football team’s final game of the regular season against Wake Forest on Nov. 25, fans were asked to take part in a end-of-the-third quarter hold-your-phone light show.
Meh.
Much has happened to raise hopes and expectations since the rest of that game …
The victory over the Demon Deacons earned a Boca Raton Bowl bid versus also 6-6 Wake Forest today.
Syracuse officials named Fran Brown the new head coach off the staff of defending national champion Georgia.
Brown has taken to this city and the nation on an energetic sprint, convincing a handful of recruits to switch their pledge for 2024 to the Orange from other locales.
He’s named interesting colleagues to become assistant coaches on his staff.
Yes, I have more enthusiasm than I did walking up to that game. I hope it last through next season.
I think it was a good hire, Mark. It looks like some players are already banking on that being the case as well – good recruiting class. Looks like there are legitimate reasons for a lot of optimism come next season. McCord was a huge get.

They have a lot of room for improvement on the field, Bruce. It will be interesting for sure.
