Railbirds

Hoof prints.

KP, Bake and I wanted to watch the horses being led one-by-one to the starting gate.

Have a good race!

So much of what goes on before and after the short bursts of racing is based on tradition, I mused to my friends as we took in our day at the races.

Watching the lead ponies and riders lead the race thoroughbreds and jockeys toward their moments of action allowed me to reckon why I watch all three Triple Crown races on my big TV at home every year.

They all look significant to me.

I enjoy the pomp, circumstance and stories.

At the track, I settled for pomp and circumstance. Oh, and sought out sights and stories.

  1. One of the workers here at my new residence had a horse in the Derby this year. Looked good at first but he didn’t have that final push. It was more fun for me to watch a group of Carmelite nuns jumping around and cheering him on though.
