My dear wife Karen had a wonderful idea for this past Sunday.
She sent me an item she spotted from the Syracuse Mets’ Facebook page promoting a Mothers Day special.
They were throwing a nice brunch in their Metropolitan Club, with a ticket to the 1 p.m. game against the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs.
Wonderful daughter Elisabeth and fiance George Three?
In?
Oh, yes, get tickets for George’s parents George Two and Susan as well, please.
The Mets worker on the phone was glad to take my order.

The gates opened at noon, and you know we were there to find our spots in the nice room on the dot.

The hostess told us we were first on our list. The table we were led to was a great spot for eating and basseball watching, both.

Happy, we were, even before they opened the buffet at 1 sharp for egg, bacon, ham, salad, fruit salad, strawberry shortcake … yes, later, out came cookies and brownies.
Did I mention that everybody of age received a mimosa? (Karen got mine.) There was also a legal beverage bar of Dunkin’ coffee, juices, soda and bottled water.
Nice. Tasty. Satisfying.

The game was broadcast on TV, too.
More to come this week.
What a great family date!
