Saturday begged for a big walk with Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle.
My dear wife Karen and I told our cherished rescue mutt that 55 degrees and sunny in the middle of February deserved more than a loop around the blocks surrounding a Bitty Better in the Liverpool neighborhood of Galeville.
So we loaded her into my Chevy Cruze and drove the two miles to Onondaga Lake Park. She was surprised how close her new house was to this piece of paradise.

And all three of us were thrilled to soak up sun and join the parade of people who had the same idea to appreciate this pretty park.
Ellie B poked her head in snow banks every now and again, for sure. Mostly, though, she walked proudly, ears back, enjoying the surroundings, spotting other dogs and people, but not straining to cause any turmoil.
That allowed me to pull my iPhone 6s out of my pocket every now and again to take a shot of what I thought might make a good photo, like this house higher on the hill flanking the trail.
We walked a mile out and a mile back. Ellie B looked as if she’d had enough for this time of the year.
In coming months, we’ll work our way to longer journeys.
What’s your weather been lately? Have you been able to spend time outdoors? Where is your favorite spot for a winter bonus walk, and why?
Hi Mark, no snow and cold weather in Jakarta: it is currently 30 degrees, and still warming up, but we are getting so much rain, as it is the monsoon season for us. I am making the most of it by going cycling and running loads. I love the photos, Mark! Super beautiful! My favourite is the “Don’t Go Out There” picture. Thanks for sharing!

Please be careful during the monsoon rains and wind, Phil. Cycling and running can be treacherous, no? I’m glad to share the sights from Syracuse to you in Jakarta!

I hear the west coast is getting hit hard by precipitation, Kathryn Grace. May Bend stay relatively safe, my friend.

It is very fluid here as well, Willow. After a warm week we’ll likely plunge back into snowy weather …

The weather in Boston has been unseasonably warm, Mark. My favorite spots for a winter bonus walk include water — a reservoir, a river, a lake, the seashore. Thanks for the delightful stroll!

I hope you get to live near a piece of that water sooner rather than later, my Boston friend Ann Koplow! More frequent walks near calming water would become a blockbuster bonus. 🙂
