2014 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

Here's an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 110,000 times in 2014. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 5 days for that many people to see it.

My takes on this WP monkey experiment:

1. Somehow one of the posts I scheduled for Sept. 3 got tagged as Sept. 2. My everyday streak for 2014 is not recognized by WordPress. 😦

2. How in the world am I going to come up with a story with year-long legs for 2015 to rival my Beddian Birthday cluster for those of us born in 1957 turning 57 that I posted in January this year?

  1. Neato Marko. But ask me if I’m surprised. Nope. I got the thingy from the monkeys, but trashed it because I’m surrounded by monkeys here, so I’ve developed a phobia. I’m sure my stats are not news worthy though, so no big loss there. Happy 2015, and I’m betting you will come up with more and more things to blog about. You seem to be in the thick of things in Syracuse, with a great social life and so many things to do. Whimper, whimper, around here we just look at concrete trees and remember the old days when the town was pretty.

    • In summer 2013, I did a post on a bar up the road from my house, yup, Three Fat Guys is its name. And the joint’s web master was so happy about it he put a photo link to my blog on the bar’s home page. And bar-goers have been clicking to my blog from the bar’s site ever since. Pretty cool, Me Who.

And here’s to a better 2015 for all of us, my friend.

  2. Yep, seeing your report now, I am convinced your streak got “done in” by WordPress’ silly way of altering all past times to conform with whether we are currently on DST or not. If this report were published in late March, I assure you every square would light up a colorful shade of green…

Ever since I learned about this quirk, I have intentionally NOT posted anything between 11PM and midnight during non-DST hours, and between midnight and 1 AM during DST hours just to keep the days my posts were published from getting changed on me…

  3. Wow! That’s the most views I have ever seen! Congratulations! A museum quality blog! That’s just awesome. 🙂 Glad to make your acquaintance this year and looking forward to many more posts. 🙂

      • Something is a wonky anyway with WP, I am getting notifications left and right about comments and “likes” and such, but my stats stay the same. Literally (and that is the proper use of the word, because literally, they don’t move.) Not that I am a stat monkey, but when I am working on the blog and comments and such and I have fifty to one hundred emails flying in with likes and comments and my stats are the same as they were five hours ago….something is amiss. So I’ve decided to give a little grin at the stat monkeys and appreciate their hard work and acknowledge some things may go by unnoticed. 😉 I have never woken up to a day without a Mark blog. Thank you.
