Shortly after I tweet about my ‘St. Vincent’ review …

That top retweet would be from the writer/director of 'St. Vincent.'

That top retweet would be from the writer/director of ‘St. Vincent.’

I’ve heard the phrase so much I’m surprised it hasn’t made me ill.

Go viral. Go viral. Go viral.

Yeah, I know.

Shortly after the Syracuse New Times site published my review of “St. Vincent” today, I tweeted the link on my Twitter account. And while I was social media-ing this and that regarding my WordPress world just now, I noticed in my email inbox the Twitter notification of a retweet by a certain film writer and director by the name of Theodore Melfi. Yeah, he’s the first-timer who broke through the tough business to “St. Vincent” made with big stars.

Thank you, Theodore, for the retweet.

How does this work now?

Go viral. Go viral. Go viral.

Have you had any of your social media posts go viral? Has anybody you’ve posted about spread your post afterward on their accounts in a good way? In a bad way?

  1. Dang! You had so many comments it took forever to get to the bottom! Just wondering if anything exciting has happened in the past 50 years it took me to be able to get down here far enough to leave a reply? LOL Congratulations! I actually got some retweets from that new band One Direction. Thought that was kinda cool.

  2. This is so fantastic and such an incredible experience, Mark! Wow! An example of how tweeting works and reaches more people. Cannot wait until you are re-hired into journalism and can make a difference with our writing! You are awesome, Mark! You go!!

    • You’re above it, I’m above it. Until …

To put it into perspective, it’s nice to know that the guy who wrote and directed his first major successful film is tweeting and reading his social media just like the guy who is writing blogs and freelance magazine pieces for a living right now. Ya know what I mean, Mark?

    • That would be a nice way to read it, Paul, but what I think it means is that he is searching the title of is film to see how many critics are reviewing it and then tweeting links to their reviews. My guess, anyway. 🙂

    • I bet country folks have given you the old RT often, Apple Pie. I’d hope so! One of the Perry boys of the Band Perry did me the honor after they played the NY state fair free court and I tweeted my big daily review link, like, two seconds after my tweet.

  3. On Sunday, “Visit Sleepy Hollow” shared my post on “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” on their Facebook page. That was exciting. But your news is even more spectacular. Congratulations, Mark. You never know who’s reading you. ‘-)

  4. That’s wonderful Mark!!! Anything happen since then?

I don’t have Twitter. But I have noticed that sometimes someone(s) is tweeting my blog. I don’t know how tweeting my blog works since I don’t have it. But I never notice anything change here. I’ve had reposts and FB posts made and those sometimes make a difference. I always love it when someone says they saw my post because of someone else sharing it in some manner.

Your fiefdom should be spread about, by the way, it’s a good place. 😉

    • I see that my post about the repost has gotten more views than the original review post here. But the tweet was linked to the post on the other site, and I do not know how many views that one gets. I hope one zillion! 🙂 It’s all who catches the eye of somebody with a lot of followers, who passes it to somebody with even more, etc. Not science, but like a Jenga game with a Quija board on top. 🙂

Thank you about my Barney Fifedom, by the way. 🙂

  5. Congrats Mark. This could be the beginning of something great for you. I sure hope it will. Remember us little people when you hit the big time. It couldn’t happen to a better person.

Nothing of mine has ever gone viral, although I’ve contracted several viruses on my computer and in my body over the years. Not quite as exciting as yours though. In fact, just plain pains in my case.

  6. Good for you, Mark! I’m a big twitter fan(although I’m on a bit of a slow ride now because I’m working on this thing called blogging, lol) and I haven’t hit viral. I have some great follows and my most popular tweet has 54 retweets and 42 likes 😀 AND I can’t believe I wasn’t following you #NF and… I would have done exactly what you did, thank Theodore Melfi publicly 🙂 The thing about getting something to go viral is that it has to get traction via views. So I hope to add to that by RTing you with an @ mention to TM and a new hashtag #MovieReview which according to ritetag https://ritetag.com/ has a good chance of being found. Here it is: https://twitter.com/AngieMc6/status/526822981881053184 Hope this helps!

  7. Pretty awesome!

I had the writer and producer of a show I was watching “on demand” favorite my tweets about the show. That’s about it.
