Jon Favreau put a selfie on his Facebook page a trio shot, with he, Bill Murray and a 10-year-old, all grinning like best buds.
They’re on location shooting a live-action version of “The Jungle Book” for Disney, which will be release in October 2015. Favreau will direct, and newcomer 10-year-old New Yorker Neel Sethi, will star alongside Murray, Christopher Walken and a bunch of other big names.
You can read more in my weekly Film News blog over on syracusenewtimes.com.
I also found with that Cinema Blend story a Screen Rant piece that points out how seriously lacking Marvel Studios because it has yet to release a film with a female superhero as the lead.
And yet Scarlett Johansson plays Black Widow as a supporting role for Marvel.
Interesting, no?

Celebrity selfies, what are the most interesting you’ve found, and why? Do you think Disney is doing right by taking on a live-action version of “The Jungle Book,” with Jon Favreau directing, and what’s your reasoning? In this day and age, why do you think it’s taken so darn long for Marvel to let loose with a female superhero as a film lead, and who would you like to see play what role?

I love Jon Favreau and Bill Murray, so I will see “The Jungle Book!” I also like Christopher Walken, hilarious on SNL when he is such a frequent guest… (Saw him in the above photo!)
I would like to see Scarlett Johansson, but she has been an action figure in the way of getting buff and being brave in movies. I also like the possibility of the girl from the movie, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” either the Swedish version or Rooney Mara, who was in the Sherlock movie (she played a gypsy/thief) with Jude Law and also, Robert Downey, Jr. She is incredibly versatile, fearless and fierce!
Mark, I enjoy our ‘movie chats!’ Smiles! Hope you have a fantastic weekend!

I’m a huge fan of Jon F., Mark. He’s a great one in my book. Female superhero movies probably aren’t convincing enough, I’d guess. Sadly.

Hmm….a live Jungle Book? Could be interesting, could be stupid. I thought The Flintstones would be a stupid movie, but John Goodman rocked it, so who knows. π

We never can tell, but Favareau at the helm is a good sign, Rachel.

I’m curious about the live Jungle Book. And I’m curious about the actors IN it. π

That’s a good one with Sir Paul. I like the Grammys with Ellen and the gang, too, Colleen.

well, we know what happened with the recent hacking of female celeb selfies, not so good – as for a female superhero lead, i’m sure it will happen relatively soon, with the onset of social media and public pressure, no reason for marvel to avoid it any longer and to enter the 21st century. jungle book – not real confident in it turning out well, i’ve never been happy with the results of any animated film, turning into a live action film – hopefully i’ll be happily surprised by it )

Your questions are too complex for me! But love that you’re asking. All I can say is that I love Christopher Walken. Now THAT’S and actor. While I have fun with movies, I don’t follow celebrities so much. Have a hard time following my own life, haha.

I’m not a big follower of movies Mark, however it does make me curious how they will do a live Jungle Book. All those talking animals in different scenes with different body language will be a challenge to do live.I am sure they’ll do a decent job, I just can’t see it resembling the original very much.
It does seem odd that Marvel hasn’t done many female superhero leads. The ones done by other film makers have been very successful. I couldn’t even guess which female actress would do well in that role. I am always completely surprised by actresses who do female superheros. I couldn’t guess the actress even after watching the movie unless I’m told who it is. Very different roles..
Great post Mar. Thanks. Oh, by the way, I did another guest post over at Cordelia’s Mom http://cordeliasmomstill.com/2014/09/04/red-stars-guest-post-by-paul-curran/#comments and I’d love it if you have time to drop by and have a read. Thank You Mark.

Thanks for pitching in on the movies, Paul. We need to get a woman superhero in the title to say it all to the girls of our time.
I will drop over to Cordelia’s Mom this weekend to give you a read! Busy week!!
