‘Sex Tape’ becomes an early candidate for stinker of the year

I never thought I’d go to a movie with the title “Sex Tape” and think it was totally unsexy.

I never thought I’d see the day when Jason Segal would write the screenplay for a movie that would have him star beside Cameron Diaz and come up with a script that delivers zero chemistry between them.

I never thought I’d cringe at sex scenes that I knew weren’t really sex scenes but, well, looked too much like sex scenes. Horrible sex scenes. Awkward sex scenes. Uncomfortable sex scenes. Don’t want to be in the theater sex scenes. That Jason Segal wrote for himself and Cameron Diaz.

“Sex Tapes” is awful. It’s not sexy, funny nor smart. It’s my least favorite movie of 2014 so far.

What’s been your least favorite so far this year? What’s your least favorite movie ever? In real life, do you think that Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal could make a good couple?

  1. I was afraid of this! But, seriously, I absolutely ‘hated’ the movie, “Neighbors.” With Zac Ephron, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne, I think as the costars. I have mentioned this to younger people who shocked me, by agreeing that the ‘bad parents’ who go and party with the fraternity could be considered not just neglectful of their sleeping baby, but abusive. Also, there is a place where they have the woman who has been breastfeeding, realizing that she cannot do so, due to the amount of alcohol and drugs in her bloodstream and milk. It is a really bad thing, they have made naked prosthetic engorged breasts for her to wear, and her husband proceeds to try to milk her! Yuck, from so many bad, tasteless moments. “Sex Tape” may have to be ‘runner up’ for “Stinker of the Year,” Mark!

  2. I haven’t even seen the commercial for this. My least favorite so far that LOOKED like it would be magnificent was Devil’s Knot. I know it was taken from a true story, so the ending might not have been what I’d hoped. But Reese Witherspoon is usually so good. The movie jumped around too much and they could have portrayed it a lot better. Thank you for your input here, though. I trust your judgment and usually you like and don’t like the same things as me. 🙂

  3. good to know, like you, i thought the trailer looked funny, and after seeing ‘tammy’, which you know let me horribly down in the expectation arena, i thought this one must be better, though it is hard to imagine them as a couple. not a winner at all apparently, many thanks for the warning, mark )

  4. I saw the croods in the theater I think last year or 2 years ago and that’s the last one. That’s a good run for me though, as before that it was saving private Ryan a long time ago. This movie sounds like one I’m gonna wanna see now. Good job, Mark!

  5. I’m so glad I read your review….The previews looked hilarious and I couldn’t wait to see it but Cowboys & Crossbones and you are right……Cameron and Jason as a married couple? ? I agree with you guys I can’t picture it.

  6. My least favorite movie of the year is the same as yours! I rarely see a movie opening weekend but as I was under the weather with a cold, thought it would be a good way to ‘relax’. What a stinker of a movie! And I don’t see Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz together outside of the movie – I also don’t see Cameron Diaz as a mother-of-two…none of it was very believable.

  7. I can’t say I am surprised at this review. Although I think their is good writing in Hollywood sadly most of it is rubbish, and the market is now cluttered with many more bad movies then good. In a movie like this with zero special effects it just makes the bad writing even more obvious.

  8. Happily crossing that one off my list. Least favorite movie for me this year was one of the Hobbit movies. I went under protest and it lived up to my expectations. Guess I am just not a Hobbit fan.
