Zac Efron’s frat boy character is goofing on Seth Rogen’s married guy character even though think-I’m-still-cool clueless man doesn’t really realize it as he gulps down mushrooms and compares favorite movie Batman leads.

There’s a likable cross-generational chemistry going on pretty quick.

But then things in this budding relationship go horribly, terribly wrong between the two.

The laughs still roll out steadily in “Neighbors” as a battle ensues to see who’s got the biggest will on the block.

If the escalator had just stopped at the comedy floor …

      • The ‘Amanda takes revenge’ follow up will be coming soon! And yes, I’ll save the movie for another time…unless it will give me tips on how to deal with my pesky neighbours? In that case, I’ll pop it on now! It’s Friday night, which means only one thing – a late night raving session *reaches for the ear plugs*

      • Oh, God. This movie is right in your plot line, Amanda. But things go wrong in a hurry for the “mature” side of the fence in the movie, as a warning to you again.

  1. My youngest daughter took me to this on Mother’s Day! We had high hopes, since we loved “The Other Woman” which has good comedic writing and those women were wonderful in their roles, as we both agreed, Leslie Mann is Lucille Ball, incarnated! (No blasphemy intended!) Anyway, the movie was horrible, especially since we felt the neighbors with the adorable baby, Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne’s characters should have been more responsible and definitely not stooped to the level of the Frat Boys. The crude dildos and Rose’s character getting the couple drunk to set the Frat Pres off was just wrong! On the lighter side, though, I was very pleased that the little ‘nerd’ anthropologist in “Bones” got to play a crazy wild woman and so glad she and her ex got reunited in the end. They were fun to watch their chemistry. Thanks for ‘panning’ the movie. My youngest daughter and I agree with you 100%! Hugs, Robin

  2. Nice review, Mark! I am intrigued and may see it for the laughs! My mom flew first class to California with Zac (well not with him) and he allowed her to take pictures of him and get an autograph for my daughter! Needless to say my daughter was thrilled!! 🙂

  3. i wasn’t too excited to see this one, and now that i’ve read your full review, i think i’ll just stick with my original plan not to see it. great review and i know how hard it can be when you have to stick it out for the whole length of a dog of a movie. as for laughing, i think we can’t help ourselves at times, even though it’s something we know we shouldn’t be laughing at. i think we do it when we are uncomfortable too )

  4. You wrote an excellent review. I don’t know how you managed to sit through the entire movie. Personally, I thought it looked ridiculous the first time I saw the preview and since then, it only looked worse every time I saw the commercials. But great post! 😀
