The novel of Vernonica Roth will be brought to the big screen this weekend with the tense “Divergent.”
Teens will fight for their lives and the good of all in this futuristic Chicago. The makers expect success; there’s already plans for two more films.
The trailer shows a lesson for sticking up for what makes you, you.
Also opening this weekend are “Muppets Most Wanted” and “God’s Not Dead.”
The first is another fur-means-funny adventure, this one adding Tina Fey and Ty Burrell to this list of stars who’ve mixed with Kermit and friends.
The second is a strident drama that features a college freshman sticking up for his beliefs against a professor who takes the bully pulpit to make all his students sign a pledge that they, too, believe God is Dead.

Which movie are most likely to see on its opening weekend?
We missed the opening, but we still want to see “Mr. Peabody and Sherman.” Mark, we might check out Kermie’s new movie. Sounds like fun. But I will avoid “Divergent” and other distopian-type films. There’s enough negativity in the world. I don’t need to fork over big bucks to see it no matter how good the popcorn is. 😉

There is indeed, Judy, although somehow it can make you feel better to see something worse, if you can follow my popcornian logic.

I want you to get that laugh you need, Sandra, and the Muppets preview looked pretty silly indeed.

I want to see the Muppets, but I always seem to get the people behind me who kick my chair. I don’t like going to the movies anymore. Guess we’ll wait til it’s on cable!

You have to learn the polite request and the subsequent stare-down to all chair-kickers, Kerbey. Some movies are meant to be seen in the theater.

I realize that, and I WANT to, and we brave it every few months, but in this day and age, I never know if someone is going to bust a cap in me for requesting they stop kicking.

It truly sucks that you have to worry about such a thing, Kerbey.

I’ll rent them both when they come out on DVD and I can watch and listen in “Angie” sound. Since I’m in love with Kermit though, that would be the Number 1 on my hit parade.

Angie, Kermit is kind of lovable. For a frog.

I would think Budapest Hotel for you, Beth, considering what you’ve written about and commented about. I do indeed like Tina Fey, too.

I am more excited about the Muppets movie. I am familiar with the young actress in “Divergent.” She was from a television show, “Secret Life of an American Teenager.” She played a pregnant teen on that show on the Family Channel. Anyway, she is going to become famous now! I will enjoy the movies and like extra butter on my popcorn and a Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper. Fun post today, Mark!

After consultation with Karen, it’s going to be ‘Divergent’ for us this weekend, Robin, maybe popcorn, too.

I haven’t even gotten to see 12 Years a Slave (read it though) or Frozen yet! 😉 I will be curious to see what you think about these. Though if I stacked the movies I haven’t seen yet, like I stack my books I haven’t read yet….I would have to get a second house.

Man, none of the movies opening this weekend are my cup of tea (or rather, Captain). I really, really, really have to want to see a movie to part with the $12 it costs to sit in a seat these days. Plus, I always want popcorn….

I haven’t picked one of the three yet for my review, CBXB. You might have talked me into the popcorn this weekend.

Get the popcorn and an extra squirt of butter. Puhleeese. Because now I have to eat pancakes after reading Chris’s post today and I can’t have both.

Oh how I do indeed love pancakes more than popcorn even, CBXB!
