It’s time to play a guessing game

Let’s have a little fun this Sunday morning.

I will call it: Guess what this is?

On my mall-walks this winter, a new corner establishment has caught my eye every time.

The name of the joint is Revolutions.

Here are three good looks at the business located in the Syracuse, N.Y., mega entertainment, dining and shopping center, Destiny USA. Yes, I have blurred the final answer on the first two shots.

Approaching the joint from one side.

And, from the other side.

And, from the other side.

On Friday, I took my first steps inside the spot.

I was greeted by one neat looking bar.

Drink and be merry.

Drink and be merry.

If that wasn’t good enough to relax, drink, enjoy some food and watch sports on TV, I also found a second bar on the other side of the space.

More seats, more bottles, more flatscreens.

If playing games is more your thing than watching games, there is this well-stocked arcade.

Winner, winner, chicken strip dinner?

Inside these doors will be live entertainment for your pleasure.

A showroom for bands, live, as the sign says.

OK, Revolutions is a sports bar, arcade, restaurant and showroom.

But that’s not what the main listing would be on any directory.

Guess. Guess again.

My final two shots below will provide the answer.

Look to the far end.

Look to the far end.

Look straight ahead.

Look straight ahead.

Revolutions is a bowling alley, 24 lanes worth.

It’s not my daddy’s bowling alley. It’s not the bowling alley I roll in my with Thursday night league.

But is it the bowling center of today?

The Revolutions website reveals that there are also centers in Florida and Pennsylvania. The site describes the bowling portion of the business as “boutique” lanes. And here they come.

Would all of the extras make you more likely to stop in and roll a casual game? Do you have a bowling center like this where you live? Is this cool or not-cool?

  1. We actually had a group of gals go bowling last night for a youngster’s 30th bday. When I see bowling alleys like this one with all the extras, I think more money I don’t have. I’d rather have an old run-down one with PBR and BLTs instead of the places here with truffle oil french fries and a $7 beer.

  2. I’d be just happy to have any bowling alley. I don’t think they are too common here and with the Australian alcohol mentality this would probably get people in. A bit like shooting pool or playing darts. You could wobble your way onto the lanes and try and shoot your ball to avoid the gutter. I’d prefer the old type myself but they just don’t seem to exist anymore.

  3. i was at one here once, called ‘lucky bowling’ kind of similar, upscale trendy. nice, but for me, a bowling experience needs to be neighborhood, and a just come as you are fun for all experience.

  4. We have one of those types here, another company called “Uptown Alley”.

It’s nice…but part of the bowling alley allure to me is the kind of dive-feel. It’s not supposed to be a classy joint, it is supposed to be about beer, smelly shoes and such. I’ll go to UA again with friends, fun is fun, but I prefer old-school.
