College football fan that I am, I’m certain to watch quite a bit of action leading up to the tussle between Florida State and Auburn for the BCS national title. (Hey! After that Jan. 6 ends with the crowning of a champion, we’re done with the BCS and on to the four-team playoff.) Maybe not a game in full, per se, but quarters here and series there.
Today, though, please do not disturb. Today is my big bowl day.
Nationally, I know, the Military Bowl and the Texas Bowl don’t mean much. In fact, the 2:30 p.m. game in Annapolis, Md., and 6 p.m. game in Houston will be used in the argument that there are too many bowl games and too many so-what matchups because of it.
Who will watch some of these games except for fans of the teams involved? Early afternoon on a Friday? Dinner time on the same Friday?
The ratings will not be boffo.
But I, as you may know from reading my posts about this significant season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, am a Maryland alum and Syracuse season-ticketholder.
So I will watch my Terps take on Marshall and the Orange tangle with Minnesota.
Today, the answer to the question above is: Me! So you won’t catch me pointing fingers and complaining about too many bowl games and too many so-so teams extending their seasons with meaningless matchups.
I think it’s OK that there are citizens and committees in cities that want to welcome fans from other places. I’m glad that ESPN is all-in for these games.
If you don’t want to watch, don’t.
I will be rooting for Maryland to finish this season and head into the Big Ten with a record of 8-5.
I will be pulling for Syracuse to conclude its first year in the ACC with a mark of 7-6.
That means something to me.
Are there any less-than-mainstream college football bowl games that interest you this year? Do you think there are too many bowl games?

Terrapins…ouch!
At least the Orange took care of business. Have to watch the DVR’d game when we return…at least the last 1:17!

My Terrapins now lose at home to Boston University to basketball and in a bowl game to Marshall. Ouch, indeed, DJ. Enjoy that SU replay when you get done hitting those backyard sand wedges and return from Florida.

Since I don’t care much for football, I’ll leave that one for you, but when the Wild Cats play with the round ball, it’s UK all the way. And Saturday it’s UK vs Louisville, so that is a battle we just don’t miss in this part of the world. GO CATS!!!!

Here in St. Pete we already hosted the Beef-O-Brady’s bowl, I’m sure to an underwhelming crowd. And we also have the outback bol in Tampa and the East West Shiners game back here in St. Pete.
Seeing how I do not subscribe to cable and olny get over the air and Apple TV programming, plus the web my bowl game watching is limited. The Capitol one and the Hyndai bowl are my only choices, I do see that I missed out on the “Royal Purple Bowl” on ABC… Royal Purple Bowl??

When the Beef O’Brady’s Bowl was on TV, I saw the restaurant on commercials and thought, looks great. I sure wish we had one here in Syracuse. Royal Purple, I thought that logo looked somewhat like Crown Royal. But it was not a liquor company at all. Maybe I do watch too much college football on TV, Greg.
