Tell me about it, and I’ll share the news

As we head toward what promises to be a more springlike weekend here in Central New York, for the first time on markbialczak.com, I will shine my sun on a couple of nuggets from my email bag (and Facebook message list).

Hard Promises•Rockers Hard Promises filled the house at Upstairs at the Dinosaur last weekend for a set that included a tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Guitarist Jeff Gordon sent me a message prior explaining how the guys that have gone by the name Kane, including Pete Levante, Kevin Farrell, Todd Troubetaris, John Goodwin and Gordon, formed Hard Promises with Petty’s music on their mind.

But with stints in Benny Mardones’ Hurricanes, Custom Taylor Band, Jake Fake and the Liars and more also on the various resumes, the musicians certainly consider much more than Petty’s work as their influences.

They’ll play, inside and out, this summer.

Next up is May 10, at the Anchor Bar in Brewerton, for a 9 p.m. set. Hard Promises also play at 7 p.m. June 8 at the Taste of Syracuse.

Mike Estep Band•The Mike Estep Band has a special 15th anniversary anniversary show on the schedule.

Bassist Paul Opel sends along a note proudly sharing the news that he’ll take the stage with guitarist and singer Estep, guitarists Tim Herron and Jeff Favalo and drummer Steve Orlando Jr. Saturday night, May 11, at Syracuse’s iconic bar Shifty’s, on Burnet Ave.

Opel says they plan to “stir the soul and recognize the CNY music community.”

MEB has fine history of four albums and many, many, club shows.

Anthony Tyler•Singer, guitarist and songwriter Anthony Tyler sent over a very nice note that he’d like to send me his latest collection, titled, just-right, “The Anthony Tyler Connection.”

Ty, as I’ve come to call the talented musician, also reports that he’ll post a new song a month on his site, anthonytylermusic.com.

And once upon a time, Ty played guitar with Mardones’ Syracuse-based band, too. Ty says he’ll ask Benny to sing on one of his new songs on the site.

•So, the moral of this story: send me news and updates at markbialczak@gmail.com or on my Facebook page, and I’ll periodically go to the mailbag on this blog.

And, as always, enjoy your weekend.
