New and old can share
It’s interesting to note the mix of new and old in such close proximity as I walk in Downtown Syracuse.

Why I like the 4 p.m. start time for Syracuse football games, continued … In early autumn, the departure time from the contest gave my dear wife Karen and I a lovely view of a certain glow around and coming from Crouse College.
The Syracuse Orange football squad wasn’t the only thing dressed in gray Saturday. The new building going up across from our usual parking lot down the hill had a new layer on certain portions of the outside wall, too. Dark gray. Charcoal, is the proper description, perhaps.
The castle that is really Syracuse Universithy’s Crouse College has been a photo favorite of mine for years. Walking to the Friday night Orange college football game against Clemson, I was able to capture it from a different angle in different light. I never get enough of this place’s aura.
While walking in Cape Cod, I couldn’t help but notice two striking libraries while walking with my dear wife Karen. The Eldredge Library in the heart of Chatham exuded old charm. The Town of Dennis Public Library filled its square with a more contemporary feel. Karen told me I’d fit in at both. Tomorrow: Wrapping…
On a recent walk around the blocks surrounding the Little Bitty in the Syracuse city neighborhood of Eastwood with my dear wife Karen and Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle, a recently painted house caught my eye. Hover over either gallery photo for a description. Click on either image for an enlarged slide show. Two recently…
In my monthly turn at the Blog of Funny Names, I turn my blueprint onto Ward Wellington Ward, the famous Syracuse architect who placed 26 of the homes he built around the Salt City in the early 1900s on the National Register of Historic Places. Yeah, these days they’d probably just call him Old Triple…
Finally finding the right day, I met my dear wife Karen for lunch downtown Syracuse’s Festa Italiana. Set in big white tents in a major parking lot and city streets between City Hall, Key Bank, a big church and other buildings of architectural note, this festival sets itself apart from the others that call the…
My dear wife Karen’s email asked if I’d like to meet her for lunch at Festa Italiana. I got there early enough to take out my iPhone 6 to share my view of the fountain at downtown Syracuse’s Hanover Square on a lovely 85º F mid-September afternoon. No mattter that Karen meant the next day…
For a business meeting for one of my freelance gigs this week, the boss suggested the public library located in the Galleries of Syracuse. That’s the shiny mall that opened in downtown in 1987. I showed you the outside of the place after a walk with fellow blogger and friend Jim McKeever in March. I…
