Kids will play

Busy enjoying spring. It only took a warm and sunny spring day and a loop around Wegmans Landing playground to remind me that the young ones and the folks who care from them get so much out of this great space during our nice months. I used to get an eye and earful of the…

Hitting the first big walking goal in April

With determination and warmer days, I’ve hit my walking goal for April. Several clustered afternoon visits to Onondaga Lake Park led to the sunny day when I first took a left from the Salt Museum parking lot to stride past the easternmost tip and then loop back around Wegmans Landing children’s playground back to the…

Cheers from the tulips

Classic for April. My dear wife Karen and I are greatly satisfied when April brings the emergence of her dear tulips. This year, the orange babies on the left side of the backyard were the first to open to our world. Beautiful and stately they are.

Waiting for our second spring

First burst at the kids’ house. A weekend visit to Elisabeth and George Three’s place beat the return of cooler temperatures and allowed me to catch their gardens in first spring glory. Backyard, ready. Their house is ringed by early bloomers. Ready for the meats. George’s smoker is ready for action, too. On Sunday, we…

We knew more than I thought

Our host for the evening. Ever diligent social media checker Elisabeth noted the Trivia Night scheduled in the Metropolitan Club by our Syracuse Mets baseball organization. Yes, terrific daughter, retired guy dad will pick up our tickets. Chilling out during a break. Bonus! With the mind game came the opportunity to view the Triple A…

The moon also rises

I’ll reflect for the season, too. Can I catch a pretty moon over our backyard in April? Out the back door I go. There it sits, ripe for my picking.

Spring sunset warms me

That magic moment. Later and later, I thought as I gazed out the kitchen window and saw the light lingering on our stretch of the world. Can I catch some orange on the horizon due west? Yes, I can. Cheers to the April sunset.

Busy dog come springtime

Radius expands. One by one, our cherished rescue mutt Ellie carries her toys from the living room storage box to the backyard deck and then beyond as the spring days get warmer and warmer. Soon enough they will be on my roundup list come mowing days!

Lost: One woman’s sandal

Fall leftover. Discovered during spring backyard roundup: One woman’s flip-flop left lonely on our backyard path. Owner: My dear wife Karen. She laughed when I pointed it out, figuring she’d find its pair soon enough that she would not spend any time at all hopping around come the warmer temps.

Next up, real leaves

Fill ‘er up. I don’t just look down while checking the spring progress of our backyard. The mid-size bush flanking our shed is budding up nicely, thank you. Soon enough I will be stooping low with our lawn mower underneath its first purple blooms!
