My Maryland Terps indeed jumped out to a first-quarter lead as my dear wife Karen and I watched on in our home city JMA Wireless Dome in the battle of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in men’s college lacrosse.

But Syracuse had too much on both offense and defense.

The final score: Syracuse 11, Maryland 9.

The big crowd erupted in cheers at the final whistle, minus the impressive-to-us pocket of Maryland fans in one section.

Syracuse would be the new No. 1 after breaking a nine-game losing streak to Maryland.

Now I hope they meet again in the playoffs.
