Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Met

Welcome to Syracuse.

At a previous Syracuse Mets open house, terrific daughter Elisabeth urged me to ask General Manager Jason Smorol during the finishing question-and-answer session why famous mascots Mr. Met and Mrs. Met don’t come around NBT Bank Stadium, ever.

He handed the query over to front office colleague Kathleen McCormick, who told the crowd that the parent New York Mets were quite covetous of the famous pair’s time … and that appearance fees were way expensive to boot.

No affiliate discount? I countered.

Fast forward to this weekend’s open house. My dear wife Karen and I, Elisabeth and George Three were quite happy to stand in line to meet Mr. Met and Mrs. Met as part of the fun.

Popular attraction.

Mr. Met gave a thumbs up when I pointed to his image on my hat, picked out from my Mets collection especially for this day.

Jason and Kathleen pointed out our question from last year during his speech, too.

Great job nabbing the parents’ mascots for the occasion!

Our fave Scooch.

Don’t worry, Scooch, we still love your good work every time.
