Looking sharp after Maiden Mow.
This was the year for a new lawnmower, I conferred with my dear wife Karen.
The steady red Troy Bilt had come with us from our previous house.
This would be a decade of vrooming around for us … I changed the oil every season and all … but …
Yes, she agreed. That electric model I called up on the big box website sure looked nice.
We went to the store and the carton fit into the back of our car quite snugly.
Our two minds figured out the battery and charger, grass catcher, this knob and that lever.
It has its own idiosyncrasies compared to the grass mower.
It’s self-propelled, for one, and I still prefer to push with my own oomph at this point. I did try both green levers at the same time for a row or two as a test, and this thing’s mind-of-its-own is speedy. I think Karen will use one lever if she chooses to mow so she’s not chasing the mower up and down the lawn.
I’m not sure it cuts quite as tight as the gas mower … but maybe that’s because I set the blade height at 3 inches out of 6. I’ll go down to 2 next time and see how that looks and feels.
The operating manual says a charge will last for 55 minutes of cutting. I got the whole lawn done. Fantastic.
Here’s to many happy seasons to come. And trips with the red can to the gas station.
We just bought our first electric mower as well, Mark. Our long-running gas mower (the one I managed to keep in the garage all winter long this year if you might recall) actually broke on the first start-up this season. We hadn’t planned on getting an electric model to replace it, but once we got to the store we were all-in and so far it’s been great!

Look at us taking the step at the same time, Bruce. And you after maneuvering to store your gas model in the garage all winter …

Truly bizarre, Mark. It started right up on the first pull of the season…and the blade assembly shaft promptly broke in half…with half of the shaft remaining in the mower. We had a good laugh.

Glad the blade shaft mishap didn’t cause any injuries, Bruce!
