A different tailgate.
It was so cool outside at noon Friday that we decided it was wiser to partake in our traditional Opening Day tailgate pregame festivities in Elisabeth and George’s living room rather than the stadium parking lot.
That doesn’t mean we gave up on pregame festivities altogether.

39 degrees and here we are.
We were in our great seats in plenty of time to see the hometown Syracuse Mets and visiting Rochester Red Wings announced to line up on the foul lines.

Ready to start the 2024 season.
There’s plenty of promise on this Mets squad, on the mound and in the field.

Smart start on the hill.
Lefty Joey Luchessi threw five scoreless innings.

Gilbert at the plate.
Two new arrivals to the team, outfielder Drew Gilbert and second baseman Luisangel Acuna, smacked back-to-back homers.
The Mets won 6-3.
Cold and happy we were.
Awesome! Way to be a team fan. Nothing like the first game of the season.
Happy Easter to you and yours!

Way to go to the teams of Mark and the Mets! No foul weather will spoil this crew! Their “blazed” beginning warms things up! Yay for all!

Little brother, it looks so cold there! I think you have to be very dedicated to the game to go out in 39 degrees to watch grown men hitting a little ball with a stick! As you can see, I’m still not exactly a sports fan, although I DID watch one UK basketball game with my aunt. Big surprise — they lost! I could have hit the basket more than they did that night. Never could hit a baseball, but my brother and I would listen to games by the Yankees (my team) and the Dodgers (his team) while they were still in New York. The move to California didn’t sit well with us, and we never listened again. Glad the Mets won!

An exodus to the Golden State had to happen for baseball and the culture of the country, Sis Angie, but gosh I would have been steamed if I were a Brooklyn Dodgers or New York Giants fan in the 1950s.

We were, and still are a little bit. They had some really bad seasons out there as well as some good ones.

Plenty of great (empty) seats in plenty of time.
Plenty of games left for the tailgate fun when the weather warms.
