Signs of arrival.
My dear wife Karen spotted the news first as I drove past the gas station.
Hunt Brothers Pizza she enthused as we passed onward to our weekend other weekend errand.
For years we’d noted the sponsor’s name on the hood of NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick’s car, and yes, I’ve yearned a taste. But intermittent web searches found it to be a southern thing. Then it drove more north. It reached Delaware.

Through these doors.
Now it’s reached an East Syracuse Citgo gas station.
I returned the next lunchtime.

Nice display.
You take a lot of pictures. You from Hunt Brothers? queried the clerk.
Nah. I just like taking pictures, said I.
And I appreciate sampling new types of national chain pizza that’s been circling in front of my eyes for seemingly forever.

Ready for me.
Karen toiling away at the eye center, I decided upon a Hunk A Pizza, a ready and waiting for me Pizza Party for One topped with Pepperoni.
Although the sign promised variety aplenty, I wasn’t surprised that the pre-made slices appeared to be plain and pepperoni.

Overdone?
Top flipped, it appeared browner than most pizzeria varieties I take home whole.
It was still warm, though, after my three-or-so-mile drive via the highway and various streets.
Verdict:
Better than your garden variety gas station pizza. The sauce is spicy. The cheese, abundant and stringy. The crust, soft underneath and crisp at edge. Pepperoni, abundant and vibrant.
I imagine the whole pie I’ll purchase for my dear wife Karen and I at a later date will come right out the oven and be even better.
Will Hunt Brothers completely overtake our locally owned pizzerias on our rota? No. It could earn a slice of the action, though.
And I’ll be looking to see who gets the company on the car when NASCAR picks up again in February now that Harvick has retired.
Never had Hunt’s…but as a pizza connoisseur I’m a bit intrigued, Mark.

It’s interesting to try these brands that at last swoop in, Bruce, for sure.

it’s great when something you’ve been wanting to try, comes to you. nice pizza review and I think you’re right, a fresh, whole pizza may be even better, and big companies don’t always make something better than the local little guys. enjoy it all –
