Waiting for the cars and the crowds

Seeing the ups and downs.

The Syracuse Nationals car show weekend is knocking at our door.

Since I scooted over to the nearby hotel parking lot to capture and share photos of parked classic cars last summer, that joint closed its doors.

The official hotel for the big car show will now be the Embassy Suites next to our mega entertainment, shopping, and dining complex Destiny USA.

I took the short drive over Wednesday wondering if any of the car owners had pulled into that lot already, even though radio stations had told me that registration at that hotel starts this morning. Well, all the cars in the lot were of more modern vintage.

Good sign at the food court.

I did walk around the big mall to see what was up for welcoming signs for car buffs.

Positives: For the first time in more than a year, all the escalators were working. Signs were up in numerous vacant storefronts trumpeting new businesses to come.

Negative: There weren’t many people there on a Wednesday morning other than me.

I’ll be back today to look around the hotel parking lot for those cool cars.

  1. When I clicked on this post, I was anxious to see the cars… but after looking through your photos, I’m increasingly curious about RACHEL’S Mediterranean restaurant. (I don’t usually get to share a name with many things, and down here, the big “Rachel’s” is a strip club!)

  2. glad to see things are physically back to normal in the mall, and hopefully people will be back over time. many malls are struggling now, and our mall here is struggling too. they are working on turning it into some sort to of mixed use development, with some stores, some offices, restaurants and condos, kind of a second city center area. we’ll see what happens over time, as the changes happen. as for the car show, almost there, and I’m sure it will come to life when all of the passionate car people arrive on the scene. it’s a happy bunch, as you know –
