Mark, I did not know Syracuse was known as that nickname. I read an article several years ago about underground mines in Ohio beneath Lake Erie. Pretty interesting how they produce/extract the salt.

I found the Salt Museum web site and from there a 25 minute video about the history of salt mining. Very very interesting. How hard the work was and dangerous too. Many immigrants found work there. The film provided so much more than just about salt. So much history! Oh, I and learned how to pronounce Onondaga Lake. 🙂

Way to go, taking those steps, ladysighs. I hear a lot about the history, working in the library a mile or so down the road. It is quite interesting indeed.
