Tom Honan will be busy this weekend bringing interesting music to Central New York. The main behind Live Space Entertainment cranks up for May with a pair of shows flanking Syracuse.

Friday night, Mary Fahl performs at Homer Center for the Arts.

Fahl is a singer of note who also carries a connection to the area. Her band leader for the past several years has been veteran Syracuse musican and producer Mark Doyle.

Since splitting from the band October Project, her solo career has been going places.

Mary has released several compelling albums, including the fantastic re-working of Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” for V2 Records and her wonderful, original studio album “The Other Side of Time” on Sony Odyssey. She has also written and performed songs for several major motion pictures, including the lead song (“Going Home”) for the Civil War epic Gods and Generals. Her most recent album “Live at the Mauch Chunk Opera House”, winner of the Indie Acoustic “Album of the Year” award, is a collection of twenty-four tracks recorded live at one of America’s oldest vaudeville theaters that captures the soaring, soul-permeating vocals and musical breadth that makes the Mary Fahl concert experience what the Portland Press called “soul-permeating.”

On Saturday night, veteran singer and sax man Joe Whiting puts on a show in his old stomping grounds, the Auburn Public Theater.

The cool venue’s site calls it a CD release show for “a local legend.”

Enough said. No, not really.

Whiting knows how to put out the blues. Rock. Soul. All of it, quite deliciously.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

Oh, in case you never knew or it slipped your mind: Doyle and Whiting are longtime musical partners, since they played in the band’s Free Will and Jukin’ Bone together in the 1960s, growing up in the Skaneateles and Auburn area some 25 miles west of Syracuse.
