I was peacefully digging Jimmy Fallon’s wise humor hosting “The Tonight Show” a couple nights ago when Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels took over the guests’ couch.
The living room was peaceful no longer.
Enter pandemonium.
“Dumb and Dumber To” is coming to theaters on Nov. 14, and the two stars were there to debut the trailer for the Farrelly brothers’ film of outlandish antics and no-they-didn’t behavior.
It will be a trip, this sequel two decades after the original that opened the door for many, many movies quite like it.
Also this week, while perusing topics for the news installment of my film blog work for the Syracuse New Times, I noticed an item about the release of a second animated movie featuring the Nickelodeon-born soaker of the sea, SpongeBob SquarePants.
I have a squishy part in my heart for Bob because he’s voiced by Tom Kenny, a very nice California funny man who I’ve met because he’s from Syracuse, and he loves music, and he comes back home, and he’s made SpongeBob albums, and he’s told me what it was like to work with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, and I just shook Tom’s hand and chatted with him in March after he sang and danced on stage with the Flashcubes here at The Palace Theater.
Anyway, Kenny will have voice help in “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water” by Antonio Banderas. And the poster for the film shows a bit of Bob’s tush.

Do the over-the-top comic antics of the Farrelly brothers’ movies draw your attention or make you look away? What is the most memorable “Dumb and Dumber” real-life situation you’ve witnessed? What real-life too-much-plumber’s view comes to your mind?

This movie looks even more ridiculous than the first, and I cannot wait for it.

I really wasn’t ready to watch them two decades ago.
Not my oyster, you see.
Maybe I should escape from my comfort zone?
Then again maybe not.

Hmm…I’m not qualified to answer here. Sponge Bob gets on my nerves, but not nearly as much as Jim Carrey. Even when he was on In Living Color, he was too far over the top. A little of him then went a long way, and the older he got, the more I couldn’t stand him. Sorry. But, hey, your writing here is awesome! And how cool that SB is from your home town! 😀

Yeah, not a lot of people know that SpongeBob is a Syracusan. Little-known Hollywood secret, Rachel ….

yes, i actually did enjoy the first d and d, i know it’s dumb and it’s gross, but hard to deny it’s funny, and am looking forward to the next one. cool about your sponge bob connection, and that he’s a musician, i always thought it would be so fun to voice a film role.

Let’s make a cartoon movie, our WP gang, so we can be the voices. I think we can have a lot of different characters covered. I would love to do that, too, Beth! We can get Austin to write the screenplay …

that sounds fantastic. and if given the option i would like to be a dancing and jovial sock monkey.

For the most part, “Dumb and Dumber,” was one of my brother Randy’s and my favorite movies. But along came the crazy antics of Barbra Streisand, Dustin Hoffman, Robert DeNiro and Blythe Danner, wow! We loved, “The Fockers!” I have no interest in bad humor or really raunchy jokes. I think that the original was wild and crazy but did not get nearly as dirty as current comedies. I laugh at the “Hangover” movies, but inwardly cringe from time to time… The “Neighbors” movie stooped pretty low, Mark. I have shared this with you before. I guess the Farelly Brothers may have a good thing, since both those actors are still pretty well liked. I would think that it would be a “B-” movie, but worth seeing… Thanks for getting my brain into a weird state of mind, Mark!

I cannot relate to “all’ of your references, but I can certainly relate to the gist of your comment.
Cheers!
And here is an old fart’s opinion:
The only great movie MS Streisand ever did was ‘Funny Girl’
OK, that may be unkind. I liked…Ah hell! I cannot recall, but trust me: I did like some of her other movies. I just cannot verbalize the titles right now.
Peace,
Lance

Having two goofy,Three Stooges-quoting brothers permanently warped the development of my sense of humor (nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.) And knowing what a thoughtful and accomplished person Jeff Daniels is in real life adds to the hilarity of the movie for me.
