An artsy iPad Air take on Breanna Stewart during the Connecticut women’s victory tonight over Notre Dame for the national championship.
The Connecticut women’s basketball team made it two straight tonight by beating Notre Dame.
That earns national championships for the Huskies two nights in a row, following last night’s crown captured by the men’s team with a win over Kentucky.
And it’s two national titles in a row for the Connecticut women.
Let’s talk sports dynasty here, folks.
The Huskies finished the season with a record of 40-0, and had to beat a previously undefeated Notre Dame team to do it.
Coach Geno Auriemma has directed his Connecticut team to nine title games. And his teams have won all nine. This title allows Auriemma to bypass the total by hall of fame Tennessee women’s coach Pat Summitt. And it pulls him just one national title shy of the title king, legendary UCLA men’s coach John Wooden.
It’s a pretty good college career start for Syracuse native Breanna Stewart, too. The sophomore has won national titles both her seasons at Connecticut. And she was named the most outstanding player of the Final Four both years. Do I hear three?
Do you have a favorite women’s college basketball team?Do you avidly follow any women’s sports?
Great news that the Connecticut women’s team won two years in a row, also! I am all about the women’s teams and if I were one to be invited, I would watch, but if on t.v. I just glance and go back to the other show I watch. I am a channel surfer, and in sports, a highlight of the game kind of ‘gal!’ Smiles, Robin

I try to watch four hours of TV on all stations, so I know what you mean by channel surfing, Robin. Good job!

Wearing my husky duds proud today!
A three-peat/four-peat is very conceivable…Geno knows how to get the best from his players, especially when it counts. Stewie will continue to get better and that has got to be scary to the other teams. So glad no one-and-done in woman’s bball!!

Celebrate my thin Husky friend! You deserve it. That was pretty darn awesome, DJ! And I agree, women’s basketball is better without the lure of pro millions. But I do wish the pro women players could make more cash. They deserve it.

And the Notre Dame coach did not clap for Stewart being named outstanding player. Being the Bill Belichick of women’s college basketball doesn’t help karma.
Congrats to UConn. Congrats to your hypnotic picture… I cannot look away.

I think somebody needs to record a song for Breanna to the tune of “Rhiannon.” She deserves it, Colleen.
