Seconds after the final strike in the bottom of the ninth last night at Yankee Stadium, in came the text from my great friend and pinstripes fan Kingpin.
“You may now gloat.”
Put it in the history books. The Mets have swept the season series from the Yankees for the first time. Ever. It may turn out to be the only time the way this Big Apple battle has gone.
The Mets beat the Yankees four games in a row, two at home, two on the road.
Some statistics to really put it in focus:
•The Yankees swept the Mets in 2003, when they played six games.
•The Mets had never won four in a row vs. the Yanks when the series was six games.
•The Yankees began this year’s version of the Subway Series with a mark of 54-36 against the Mets. The Yanks came into the series 10 games over and in first place in the AL East. The Mets were 11 games under .500 and in fourth place in the NL East.
You get the gist.
If I had a Mets-blue foam finger, I’d stick in the air right now.
Gloating accomplished.

You were the only person I had good thoughts for when my Yankees went down last night–for the 4th time in forever, to the – – – -. (I just can’t say the word)
