There’s a new click in the world to discover what I think about movies.

A couple times a week, I’ll write about the big, silver screen. I’ll give you an inkling about what you might like to see. I’ll share thoughts about what I’ve seen.

Hello, syracusenewtimes.com.

I’m the new movie blogger for our city’s alternative weekly. You’ll find my introductory column online and in the newsprint today. The plan is for me to write two posts a week, a look ahead at openings and a review. Occasionally, I’ll craft a longer piece.

It’s a great gig. Thank you, editor Larry Dietrich, with whom I worked at the big daily. Dietrich’s regime has included bolstering The New Times’ blog presence. My rollout is the third straight, following the debuts of Bob Niedt covering TV and Maria Welych writing about apps and games. We join a roster of respected journalists whose work frequently runs within those pages, including Jessica Novak, Ed Griffin-Nolan, Bill DeLapp, James MacKillop, Kevin Corbett, Matt Michael and Michael Davis.

So, Central New York, maybe we’ll see each other in the dark. If so, please turn off your cell phone and your yapper when the show starts.

An update, with news from Kim Parr, who read this entry and sent over word regarding a special screening tonight at the Palace Theatre, on James Street in Syracuse.

The acclaimed 2012 documentary “A Place at the Table” is narrated by Jeff Bridges. It delves into the the U.S. hunger crisis by focusing on the stories of three individuals.

It was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

Representatives from several local food organizations, including the Food Bank of Central New York and Matthew 25 Farm will hand out information and answer questions. Donations will support Bread for the World and local food distribution.
