There’s a new video out that pledges allegiance to the Syracuse Chiefs.
It’s titled “Chiefsville,” and it weaves a pretty cool hip-hop mood throughout NBT Bank Stadium. You can find the video on YouTube.
The stars of the show come from Syracuse hip-hop crew WoodFellas, Dan Ignacio and Danny Velez, joined by Nikki Feroni. They took over the Triple-A stadium for the video shoot, delivering their lyrics from the dugout and on the great, green grass of the field.
Ignacio says the genesis of the project came from Chiefs control room supervisor Anthony Cianchetti, a friend and follower of WoodFellas’ sound.
“He told me they were trying to make things more youthful and entertaining for the games,” Ingnacio reports. “This whole, entire idea was his, and it came out great.”
Ignacio wrote the chorus and his verse, and Velez wrote his verse. Veteran singer Feroni’s gorgeous voice and commanding presence was the blast that cleared the bases.
The two-day shoot left WoodFellas and the Chiefs looking to keep the connection going. Ignacio says they’ll work more, with a remix of “Cheer for the Chiefs” in the plan.“Amazing experience walking around the stadium,” Ignacio says. “Just a beautiful park. I can’t imagine the feeling those players get walking on that field every night.”
I’ve known Ignacio and his WoodFellas work for years. The passionate writer and performer grew up in Eastwood — hence, the band name — and he always puts everything he has into every project.
