A summer Retreat

Relax! Wanna go to the Retreat for a relaxing happy hour lunch, I asked my dear wife Karen. Didn’t have to pull her leg. We drive the couple miles from our house to the Village joint at least one sunny summer day each year. They have a great outdoor bar. Two drinks, a filling lunch…

My daughter’s dream concert moment

Perfect photo. My terrific daughter Elisabeth is a tried-and-true fan of rock band Train. If they’re playing anywhere near our part of the world, she and her friend Megan and niece McKenzie do their best to attend. Years ago, my dear wife Karen and I got to enjoy a Train show right here in our…

Until next year

Bucket list. May the vendors and strollers return to downtown Syracuse in the summer of 2026, I though as my dear wife Karen and I strolled another street of the spokes around the circle.

Peaking interest

Peeking at the peak. The needle tower caught my eye as my dear wife Karen and I strolled this block at the annual Syracuse Arts and Crafts Festival. Lines and angles, thank you.

Always learn

Pretty, pressed. If we chose, my dear wife Karen and I could have picked up the needed gear to adopt pressing flowers as a new hobby. I admired this booth-holders work during our stroll at the annual Syracuse Arts and Crafts Festival … but decided to leave the creating to others.

Soft spot for Terrapins

Save them. Being a University of Maryland alum, my mind goes to the Terrapins when I spot a collection of turtles. And this was a magnificent batch, albeit with not a thing to do with my old school. However, it also made me think of the turtle hospital and preserve we visited on our trip…

Big art

Birds and more. The red cardinals stand out so well on top of he wood-grained heart, I thought about the big art around the circle as my dear wife Karen and I strolled through the Syracuse Arts and Crafts Festival. Give the dog a bone. The huge dog would make a cool landing spot, too.

Basketball, too

Hoops fits. Syracuse’s famous-player basketball mural fits in nicely with the booths for the annual Arts and Crafts Festival, I think again, remembering how the Syracuse Nationals of the NBA, Syracuse University and Women’s Basketball Association (and USA Basketball) have delivered to the world so many hoops dreams. The mural by artist Jonas Never depicts…

Soft landing

Good use. Every time I think I’ve seen it all as I stroll though the Syracuse Arts and Crafts Festival with my dear wife Karen, I notice something new from years past. Yes, cashmere sweaters need a new life, too, I surmised.

Still going strong

Still advocating. I’ve lived in Syracuse since the 1980s. My stroll through the annual Syracuse Arts and Crafts Festival with my dear wife Karen reminded me that the Syracuse Peace Council has been taking its stand in all the decades I’ve been here. Thank you.
