A Memorial Day afternoon with our little golf league can mean only one thing this spring of 2015.
Even though we all known this is the unofficial kick off of summer in Everywhere, USA.
For the third Monday in a row, clouds will gather and rain will threaten.
No matter for this collection of friends, smaller than usual because Lovely Linda, Amy and Marie opted for other holiday doings.
My dear wife Karen accepted my invitation for her great company, to ride along with me in a golf cart. Happy holiday for me in another way, too, a usual walker with my clubs in my own push cart.
She doesn’t play, so although we were six in number, we decided a group of five would not bother anybody else out there as we started in good spirits on hole No. 1.
On the par-three second hole, I took out my iPhone 6 and concentrated on the ladies, for I surely have shown you enough pictures here in the past of Bird and DJ.
We all hit some good shots, and made it through seven holes before a little bit of rain fell into our lives. We could have continued, but the seventh green is quite close to the clubhouse. So that’s where we went, to sit out on the patio with a beverage, to talk about life.
Karen said she might even have felt comfortable bringing her clubs with this group. Happy holiday it was.
How did you spend your Memorial Day? Have you ever squeezed more folks than the rules allowed into a group and gotten away with it? Do you think Karen should bring her clubs and play the next holiday opening?
Good grief! Are you ever gonna catch a break from the grey golf skies? Karen looks so cute waiting in the cart. 🙂

She’ s looking good, I agree, Rachel. And come Monday, come rain.

Mark, your wife is seriously gorgeous. When you call her My Dear Wife it makes her sound like a little old lady! Shame on you! You should call her My Foxy Wife, Karen. 😉 Great photos. I’ve never golfed in my life…well…does Putt-Putt count? I’m horrible at Putt-Putt. 🙂

Putt-putt counts, Rachel. And, wow, yes, MDW Karen is very foxy. Interesting that you think my endearment makes her sound like an old lady. Obviously not!! 🙂 If she reads this comment I may have some ‘splainin’ to do.

Enjoyed your post. My husband and I visited friends in the afternoon, took a seedless watermelon, and shared that, while we visited. Back home, visited with our son. A peaceful, uneventful Memorial Day, just being thankful, especially for all the veterans who have served our country to keep it free.

Sounds like you had a great day, Freeda. Yes, remembering the veterans was a must.

Has your blog always been maroon? It’s safe to say you had a better Memorial Day than all of Texas. We had record-breaking flooding (8 million acre-feet or enough water to meet NYC’s water needs for 7 yrs) and 12 tornadoes touch down in our vicinity, the sister church that my husband has been remodeling for a year was flooded and damaged and will have to be redone, and the cherry on top was me spending 2 hrs in ER with stroke-like symptoms, getting an EKG (just so you know, they put 10 stickers on your chest and it feels awesome to pull them off later), watching the power go out and the generator come on while the tornado siren went off, and learning that if you ask them to only take two vials of blood, they don’t have to take all three. I’d rather be golfing.

That was two days ago Mark. Am I supposed to remember that long ago??? Actually, I spent the day working on resetting the apps on my computer, now that I have the new modem set up and the Internet working again. Then trying to remember the new passwords, resetting the reset ones I forgot to write down, moving furniture from one room to another, taking shelves down, putting them up in the next room. I guess I was busy brother. I’m still hurting, so apparently that means I was doing something.

One thing I’ve never quite understood about golfers..they will only go out with folks who are at their skill level…none who are much better, and few who are worse than they are. Can you ‘splain that one, Mark ? I’ve heard it mentioned that it has to do with timing, but not so sure.
And, for sure, Karen should bring her clubs, holiday or otherwise. ☺

It’s all about worry and patience, Van. The lesser-talented golfers fret that they are holding up and trying the patience of the better golfers. Sometimes that is true, but the really good golfer out for a fine time with friends wouldn’t care about that at all. In fact, the better golfer in that case would go out to make the other golfer feel at ease. Which could trigger even more self-doubt. Catch-22.

Yikes. Thanks for your answer…steps away carefully. ☺
One thing I know, Mark, good or bad performance aside, golf courses are some of the most beautiful real estate out there…it’s worth it just for that. I need to polish my own clubs ! ☺

I’m one of the not-good golfers, Van, and all is relative, so no need to step away. Yes, my friends and I call our rounds “communing with nature.” That’s enough reason to polish your own clubs.

Always one to break the rules. How about overloaded cars?? The fam will be going to Vegas next week and there’s a Kiss mini-golf place we’re gonna visit there. I just might be able to keep up with this golf stuff yet!!

It was a thunderstorm, frequent rain day here, so we stayed in and watched Star Wars 4 5 & 6, a first for our wee ones.
I think Karen should play, if as she says, she feels comfortable with that group. If not, she still looks good and content holdin down a golf cart.
I’ve only played once. Apparently I did well, but I can’t say I liked it. Kinda unfortunate, since my family is full of golfers…
