What do Will Ferrell, William Shakespeare, ‘Star Wars’ and Maine have in common?

I write about them all in my weekly Film News blog for the Syracuse New Times today, that’s what.

And you can read all about it by clicking the link below.

What, you want a little nibble more?

OK. Ferrell is said to star in a movie about Willie.

There’s news about ANOTHER Star Wars 7 trailer.

And somehow I was able to work my WordPress blogging buddy and yours, Austin Hodgens, the toga-wearing guy from the House on the Hill in Maine, into my blog over there on the site for the Syracuse alternative weekly newspaper site, too.

How damn exciting is all of that?

To be or not to be? Which Star Wars movie is your favorite, and why? How can we help Austin mend his Star Wars-loving heart?

  1. Not sure about Will Farrell doing Shakespeare. But, Mark, not a Star Wars fan? Granted not all of them were worth the price of the popcorn, but the first was one of my absolute favorites. There was a special showing of the first one. The title wasn’t announced. It was when our girls were young and the price of admission was for a very unheard of low price of a $1. 😉

  2. I liked the original cast of “Star Wars” and somehow related to this movie best. I also love comedy, which William Shakespeare wrote fine and funny plays. (“Comedy of Errors” and “Much Ado About Nothing” are my favorites!) I am not sure I will like Will Farrell’s take or whether or not I will see his movie at the theater, but I will cross my fingers and hope both new movies will succeed! Mark, I like reading Austin, I wish him well and many scripts…

  3. I like the first Star Wars film the best. I’m confused about who did what to whom in this post – but I did get that someone is thinkng about making a comedy about Shakespeare’s life. Good Luck.

  4. oh, i cannot, cannot, cannot wait for this! i can so picture wf over-emoting, shatner-style, with those words. as for austin and star wars, i think he should be commissioned to write the next installment. he is such a creative writer who loves all things other-worldly.

  5. We’ve already talked Will (Ferrell that is)–definitely a cool guy. So you are saying then that you have never seen even one Star Wars? That is the strangest thing I have ever heard. Wow. I saw the first three back in the day, but have yet to lay eyes on a prequel. No need to explain how everyone got where they are. All we need is Luke, Leah, and Hans. And the robots. Life is good. You must see!

    • I am the champion. I have now told you the strangest thing you have ever heard!

Yes, I plan to catch up. The first three. Now that you have served me this fantasticly informative comment, Liz.

  6. I like Will Ferrell but it is a reach for me to think of him as Shakespeare. But who knows? I remember seeing the first Star Wars movie. I think that is my favorite. I think you would like Star Wars. I have the anniversary edition where Lucas added some effects he couldn’t do in the original movie.

    • As far as I can tell, he’ll be playing an actor in a Shakesperian troupe. That would be really wild if he was playing Shakespeare himself, Deborah. But I like the way your mind works. 🙂

I am going to watch the orignal and a couple more, thank you.

  7. You haven’t seen Star Wars?!

Well, I like you anyway 😀 If you do take on watching these soon, I look forward to reading your reviews/experiences. Make sure to do some research to watch them in the order that is best (I prefer order of theatrical release: originals and then prequels, but it may not matter if you know the spoilers already)

Will Ferrell doesn’t irk me as much as Steve Carrell does, so I would be willing to pay to see him go all Shakespearean…unless a film reviewer friend urges me to do otherwise.

I have no advice on heart mending. I remember reading his explanation of “The Retirement Party” and I am tempted to do the same. Retire. Just without the party. 🙂

(Question: Does it matter if we comment here instead of the other site? Would you prefer both, though that one may be a little more generic of a comment? It just occurred to me.)

    • I know, the non-Star Wars viewership is a giant abyss in my soul. I will watch, I swear.

You can comment here as always, and there, too, if you wish. I do appreciate you clicking and reading there because that’s a paid blog-write for me, to be as up-front about is as can be. 🙂

  8. You know I heart Will. Plus, his name is William already. That trailer for The Retirement Party looked interesting and confusing bc I am constantly confused. The actor had an enormous scar across his face.

    • You should check out Austin’s blog, Kerbey. He patterned the dude in “The Retirement Party” after himself, but he does not have a scar across his face. He does, though, carry a sardonic sort of wit about him and maybe would leave you slightly confused as he often must write about Maine snow and broken heartts, northern and single things. Anyway, yay to Will being ❤ of yours.

    • Yes, the actor who is playing me in the film (his name is Desmond Phillips) has a scar. The director said he thought it added depth to the character and would make people think if it happened as a result of his broken heart. No scars on my face, though. 🙂
