Way to bobble, kids

Great job, juniors. What happens when you take two kids, put them on the dugout between innings, attach counters to their heads, and tell them to act like bobbleheads? Cuteness prevails. I called out that they both were winners as they walked up the aisle past me, and a mom told me thank you.

Dancing at the ballpark

The Syracuse Mets invited a special guest for the last game of the 2023 season this past weekend. Breakin’ BB McCoy was not your run-of-the-mill bat boy. Between innings, this hard worker danced this way and that on the field and on top of the dugouts. He brought back scenes from the late, great Michael…

He had our number

Big numbers. As Andreis Chaparro of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders came to the plate in the first inning of the last game of their last game of the season against the Syracuse Mets this past weekend, I looked at his uniform number and thought that 87 may be the highest I’ve seen in a good long…

From start to finish

Fall ball. We helped the Syracuse Mets open their 2023 season, and so we decided to help them close it, too. Baseball-loving family. Much like that first game in April, we dressed for the late September tussle in layers. Well, I mused, the many games I caught in between this season allowed me to appreciate…

As seen on TV

Familiar crew. George Two and Sue didn’t make it out the ballgame with us. However, it was televised in Syracuse for hometown fans. According to this text photo I received from him, he apparently caught us on the telecast.

Crunch of the bat?

Great new name. Sometimes late in a season, a Triple A squad calls a player up from Double A. Welcome to the Rochester Red Wings, Frankie Tostado. I quickly put him on my Love-That-Name squad.

There’s still baseball left

Seasonal feel. We knew we had at least one more baseball game left in us, so I took a handful of vouchers to the box office and grabbed four tickets for a Sunday day game. As happens, the morning dawned gray and drizzling. We’re fans. My dear wife Karen, terrific daughter Elisabeth, great fiance George…

Second deck can be fun

Oh, the patio! When terrific daughter Elisabeth asked if dear wife Karen and I wanted to take in the union picnic for a Syracuse Mets game at NBT Bank Stadium with she and George Three, we were all in. It’s a hit. The tickets said 1st base patio. That cool location on the second level…

Great seats down low

See it all. George Two and I decided we’d take in a Syracuse Mets weekday day game, just us two old guys. I bought ahead at the box office and snagged really close seats. Big sky. Behind the dugout with a blue sky kept us happy, yes it did.

Take us out to the ballgame

Buddies and baseball (and beer). One topic that came up after our golf game the afternoon prior was, which Syracuse baseball park did we like more? The old MacArthur Stadium or the current NBT Bank Stadium? KP leaned toward the old joint and its so-deep center field fence where fly balls went to die in…
