Happy hostas

Not just big, green and bushy. Our quite large hostas plants out back took on their late summer flowers. A full garden for sure. And they were big and beautiful, too.

Big interior ideas

Cozy in the primary. These builders know they must go all out on the interiors and enlist smart designers, too, to make their Parade of Homes houses memorable. So I took out my iPhone to capture some of their good ideas. This main bedroom window seat made me smile. In a great light. The wall…

Dreaming about the new builds

House No. 1 My dear wife Karen and I thought this was a good year to return to Central New York’s see-it-and-dream event, Parade of Homes. We’d given the stroll-and-admire opportunity a break since the first big virus year, but with she taking a half day from work, we figured a weekday afternoon was a…

Art appreciated

For book lovers. When I walk around Clinton Square these days, I notice new takes on portable art. Keys to my heart. Reading and music. Somebody knows what draws my attention.

Sign of the seasons

Another season done. The calendar is soon to be officially flipped to fall. And so the pool company has sent its workers to our backyard to put the cover back on for the leafy and snowy months. Thank you for keeping my dear wife Karen happy since June, backyard pool!

Give me a W

Changing the font. Caught on a supermarket run this week: A hard-working crew changing the big letters on the storefront. News sites say the older stores, like the one closest to our house, had yet to catch up to the new style corporate logo. Fancier. The next day’s visit saw the new logo smack dab…

As seen on TV

Familiar crew. George Two and Sue didn’t make it out the ballgame with us. However, it was televised in Syracuse for hometown fans. According to this text photo I received from him, he apparently caught us on the telecast.

Crunch of the bat?

Great new name. Sometimes late in a season, a Triple A squad calls a player up from Double A. Welcome to the Rochester Red Wings, Frankie Tostado. I quickly put him on my Love-That-Name squad.

There’s still baseball left

Seasonal feel. We knew we had at least one more baseball game left in us, so I took a handful of vouchers to the box office and grabbed four tickets for a Sunday day game. As happens, the morning dawned gray and drizzling. We’re fans. My dear wife Karen, terrific daughter Elisabeth, great fiance George…

Gauging the crowds

Who’s back? So, my dear wife Karen mulled after our 2023 visit to the New York State Fair, was it as crowded as usual? What vendors came back? What was new? Did we seem to have more room to stroll? Yeah, we still liked it.
