I found my red.

Ellie B aka Dogamous Pyle and I stretched out our legs and our lungs on the sunniest day of the week with the longest walk we’ve taken in months.
Over the river and through the woods we went to …
No, that’s not it.
Through Norwood Park and around the blocks that surround the Little Bitty in the Syracuse city neighborhood of neighborhood we stepped off, for more than an hour, me savoring and snapping with my iPhone 6 and she sniffing and pulling me to the spots she wanted to investigate the most.
I found my red.
And still it feels so different than most years.
I found more color than our last journey through my street, certainly. Burning bushes in particular had finally decided to go red. Leaves in the trees, though, no dice.
And plenty of trees were still hanging on to full green. This a few days before the start of November.
One or the other.
Other trees, on the other hand, had gone past brown and dropped their leaves altogether.
And late plants were still in full bloom.
Where’s Waldo?
With the temperature around noon hitting more than 65º F, one of my industrious neighbors decided this was a day to hang a blanket out to dry across a front yard line.
I hate to keep Ellie B away from a good sniff there so they didn’t have to put in into the dryer to get rid of dog hair.
I know snow could come any day, really. There has been frost on the car windows several mornings, but not a heavy coating on the lawns yet. Peculiar autumn, this. Very.
How’s the general weather pattern been as we head to November where you live? What’s the latest you’ve hung laundry to dry outdoors? What do you want for weather for the next month?

We’ve had some light frost, and it’s suppose to be back in the 70s this week. This is the time of year it gets very confusing MBM.

Hi Mark, I wish I could hang stuff out on a line. Still looks like summer around here. Was in the 80s yesterday with not a cloud in the sky. We are supposed to have rain tomorrow (Monday), hope something comes of it. You can blame this all on El Nino, these weird weather patterns.

El Nino may keep it warmer around here all winter, I read in our Sunday paper today, SD. That’s what half the weather people polled said. The other half said it may make it colder. I kid you not. 😮

We live in an HOA (Home Owners Association) and are not allowed to dry our clothes – or blankets – outdoors. More’s the pity. I always loved that fresh air smell on the laundry when I brought them indoors.

I love the smell of clothes hung on the line to dry Mark! Clothes lines are illegal in Calgary. Apparently they pose a danger to children. We had 12c/44f today, we’re expecting the same tomorrow but Sunday, it’s just gonna dip deep into the winter zone. Lovely photos, enjoy that weather while you can. ❤

Hanging laundry outside doesn’t work in my neighborhood… too much traffic on the ground and in the air… I tried this once and had to put everything back in the washing machine. It’s not healthy to breathe anymore.

You say frost on the windshield already? Still blows my mind. As I type, rain is pummeling the house, as it has since the wee small hours. Some schools are closed, homes and businesses flooded, the river that causes damage at 27 feet is now over 35 ft and growing. People being rescued from their homes now in South Austin, and the rain, she just keeps a coming. Safe to say Halloween will be a mite muddy. But the dogs are curled up in the back patio fluffy chairs, keeping tabs. I’m sure Ellie B. is much more comfortable inside and dry.

We’ve had a bit of cold weather, but yesterday it was in the 70s. It was great having the windows open–the cats love it. 🙂 It’s a bit cooler today, but the sun is out and shining on the red, orange, and yellow leaves I can see from the window. We still have a lot of green and brown, too, but the colors seemed to pop a bit this week.

For the most part it still greatly resembles summer there. Here too. It’s been a little cooler lately, in the 50’s, but still no frost to be seen. Although I’m not a big winter fan, I am looking forward to our first snow.

I know… I believe it has to do with El Nina or El Nino! The jet stream is doing weird things! You are going to be warm next week and we are going to be cooler then usual. But that will be fun for us. We can have camp fires and big pots of soup or chili on the stove! Enjoy this neat weather pattern!

This weekend it’s supposed to get up near 90. It seems like Halloween is almost always hot here. It’s supposed to dip after that. Sounds about right.

My front yard tree is pretty much nekkid. My back yard oak can’t make up its mind what it wants to do. It’s dropped a lot of brownish leaves, but still has a lot of green on the branches as well…

The trees are in full color now, dropping their leaves over the roads and sidewalks. The sound of rain pitter pattering on the freshly fallen leaves is very relaxing and lulls me into a peaceful place.

Fall seems to be in full swing now, colorwise. A bit late, by all accounts. Leaves are still falling, mums still flowering, herbs still fresh. Kinda peculiar. Glad to have avoided frost on Bonnie Blue so far. We’re going to hit the 70’s again next week. I won’t complain, since the heat is done. Maybe a late start to winter will mean a shorter winter?

Oh, and on a clear day, I will hang the wash as long as it’s above freezing. I don’t have my grandmother’s dedication to line drying in February, lol!

Above freezing is needed for the line laundry, I do agree, Joey. In my single stint in my 40s, I’d hang dry some stuff in the backyard to avoid laundromat quarter-feeding, but not in the winter, that’s for sure!

When we first moved into our house 20 years ago, I was happy that we had a clothes pole and clothes lines, and I loved hanging the sheets and towels out. But then the neighbor moved in who’s a chain smoker and likes to smoke right next to the fence. I can’t stand the smoke smell on my nice, clean laundry so now I just use the dryer for everything.
As for the leaves, in the past couple of days I’ve noted some color, but mostly just ambers bordering on brown. Even our maple tree did get that beautiful bright red hue it has every year – its leaves turned a sort of burgundy before they started dropping.

Mark, I don’t know what seasonal is anywhere anymore. We are supposed to have 90F heat tomorrow on Halloween. That is not normal even here but I am coming to the conclusion that Octobers and even Novembers will be hot from now on. When I first moved here 20+ years ago, to Southern California, it was frigid by the end of October. But, even so, it is October sun, not July, so I love this time of year.
Your pictures remind me of home and make me nostalgic. So glad I found your blog so I can take a trip back to the normal and real world, lol, every time you post! 😀

Yesterday was especially glorious here, reached to 66 degrees with sun and wind to dry out all those wet leaves that fell during the storm. I looked for any excuse to be outside. Our burning bush finally turned bright red this week. 🍃 🍂 🍁 🌾

We got rain.
Lol!
But actually were been lucky with totally unseasonal sunshine and relatively mild temperatures.
The clocks have gone back here now, so though the Mir jags are a tad lighter, the evenings draw in much sooner, and you just wanna be inside, snuggled under a blanket, with your loved ones!!
Next month, I’d love it to stay dry… Though I doubt it!

We put the clocks back tomorrow night, Ritu, so it will be much the same about being inside after dinner hour here as well no matter if it’s still a tad warm. 🙂 It gets wet in November, I know that. It could turn and snow in Syracuse any time now.
