It didn’t look too bad outside A Bitty Better when I woke up Thursday morning.
The dire weather forecasts seemed to be, well, a bit too dire.
The snow really hadn’t arrived in full force.
It was cold, though.
But then I reached the bottom of our street in the Galeville neighborhood of Liverpool and pulled onto Old Liverpool Road on my way to work at the Liverpool Public Library.
And I couldn’t see past my windshield. The snow squalls had moved in, and I didn’t think I could make the two miles to work without incident.
So I pulled into the closest parking lot to allow the band of snow to pass by. I hoped. I sat in the parked car for more than five minutes, watching the snow fall at an alarming rate. Then it seemed to have slowed somewhat, so I pulled back out on the road and followed the tail lights in front of me. I hoped that driver stayed on the road. Having moved here just two months ago, I felt this route is not ingrained in my mind and my muscle memory as deeply as the roads I took to and from The Little Bitty, where my dear wife Karen and I lived for a dozen years.
I took the curves and made my way over the train tracks, slowing for the red light at the big intersection before my entrance into the pretty Village of Liverpool.
Yes, I had left early enough to make my morning stop at Nichols Supermarket for a cup of Joe to bring to my desk, tasty flavored locally made Paul de Lima. I’m on a Butterscotch Toffee jag these days.
Phew. Safe at work, without incident.
Would you drive on following tail lights or pull over in the nearest lot? What are your most feared driving conditions, and why? Which is your favorite photo, and why?
We got hit on Thursday. When I drove in at 4 a.m., nothing had started yet. It was well after the sun was up that I saw it snowing like the proverbial son of a bitch. Then it stopped. Haha, I thought. Then it had started again when I got out at 3 p.m. Yikes! But I lived to tell the tale. Likewise driving to the store in some crappy crap this morning. AND when I had to run out again for the sugar I didn’t know I needed (Christmas cookie day). I got beer that time. I don’t think it’s doing anything now, but you now Mohawk Valley Weather: if you don’t like it, wait five minutes.

The visibily thing and ice are two crushers to my spirit, Cynthia. And still I live here for 33 years and counting. So figure me out. Must be how much I love the other three seasons.

I have developed this weird personality quirk, I’m not sure when it started, but I laugh at bad weather. Driving or walking through the crashing rain or blinding snow, I find myself getting the giggles. It sees me through.

We are expecting 70 degrees with possible tornadic activity followed by an artic blast and possibly freezing conditions. I wish it would only snow!

We just got blasted by a huge snow storm on Wednesday which dumped 16 to 20 inches in and around our town, and schools were closed for two days. I did not drive at all during that time and don’t plan on it until this is all cleared out, they haven’t even fully plowed our street yet! Daughter got stuck in our unplowed cul-de-sac trying to drive to school today, then hubby got stuck in our driveway driving out to pull her out with our car! The traffic light photo interests me because I am trying to figure out why there is both a left turn sign with a no left turn sign, LOL!

Be careful, Kathryn Grace. You know when it will be clear enough to drive.
That intersection is a doozie. Three roads come together. You can go left, but not severely left.

be safe always. it has been like that off and on for the last week here. on monday, we had a snow day off of school already. i don’t mind snow driving, (as long as i can see), but i hate ice driving. not much longer until winter solstice and then we are heading back towards spring. )

I always appreciate Dec. 21, Beth, for the head back toward light. ❤ Yes, ice driving is worse than snow driving. 😮

I am just glad I no longer have to be someplace no matter what the weather is. It is nice to be able to stay home and just watch the snow come down.
